    Read odometer without key

    Hey everyone,

Looking at a junkyard 01 B5 S4 and wondering if there is any way I can find out the mileage on the motor without the key. I know on a m3 you could push the odo stalk and get the reading with no keys, wondering if there's anything similar here.

I've seen I can remove the cluster and power pins 1 and 23 with 12V, and ground 7,9 and 24, which seems to be the best route so far. Is there any way to do this without a bench power supply? Not sure what amperage I would need. I'm thinking a car battery is too much, but any amount of batteries would be too little.

    Appreciate any advice.

    Car battery is fine.

Electronics won't just draw the full current of the supply... unless they're shorting.

Put a fuse inline if you're worried about it.

If the ecu loom is still intact, take a jump box with you, connect to assumed dead batt, or if batt is missing directly to cables. power on, open door, you'll see the milage.
