It's been a while since I posted here, but I have been reading the various threads on the RS7's reliability, maintenance, customizations, purchasing, leasing, rates, etc.
Thank you guys for sharing all your insight. I *really* appreciate it.
Yesterday, I traded my 2014 daytona grey RS5 cabriolet for a 2016 Nogaro Blue RS7 with dynamic package, carbon-optics w/quattro script and the black wheels.
I also looked at a Corvette Z06 and a CTS-V (same LT4 powerplant), but decided against them for various reasons, one of which is walking into those dealerships felt like walking into a strip mall. Sadly, I visited two Chevrolet and two Cadillac dealers in socal and got the same impression--waited at least 10 minutes to speak to a salesman and I knew more about the cars than the salesmen did. No one would entertain letting me test drive their cars unless a deal was on the table which was a deal breaker for me. From what I was told, the cars are too exclusive--for someone ready to trade in an $80k+ car. It's tough to drop $100k+ on a new car without "feeling" it. I did, however, test all the electronics in those cars and the touch interfaces are awful. I'd have to press buttons that don't actually depress several times for them to press and the sound systems weren't remarkably better than my RS5. Apple Car Play was nothing remarkable. Having driven Audis for the last 15 years, the Audi cabins and electronics feel a cut above these latest American interiors. I wish I could say how the other cars performed, but I read that the LT4 engine/auto-transmission had heat soak issues when driven hard on hot days.
I test drove two RS7s, one with air suspension and another with DRC. I prefer DRC with the caliper and sports exhaust option, although I feel the sport exhaust is quieter inside the cabin than on my RS5 (probably because of the rag top on the RS5). The 'Dynamic' mode is a tad stiffer on the RS7, but it's exactly what I wanted. I thought heavily on whether to opt for the B&O, but at the end of the day, my ears couldn't tell the difference--both systems lacked the punch my RS5's B&O had in the mid-bass when configured for 'driver' focus, which I will miss. The power and responsiveness is incredible compared to the RS5. Gear changes are snappier, particularly when getting on the gas in D--where the RS5 would lag or be 'unsure' and take a couple seconds to engage. The MMI system is what I'd expect; it doesn't have the RS5's forward/back button coupled to the power/volume, but I'm able to set the * button on the steering wheel to forward like on my old S6.
This new power will keep me happy for a few years yet...
