Getting my tints done this week

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So after 2 years of saying I was going to get my windows tinted I'm finally going to be doing it this weekend...anybody have any recommendations on what looks good with mythos black? I'm thinking 30 or 35% because the area I live in can be pretty dark

My usualy shop uses SunTek products. The A4 I had them do their fancy ceramic stuff they upsold me on. The s4 and the Jetta I did not. The ceramic shit is a waste if you ask me so save like 50 bucks there.

i have actually been doing a bit of research on that myself for my new(to me) '15 mythos. I am pretty much set on the 30% Huper Optik Cermaic. It gets pretty hot here in Houston so it "should" help per the huper optik reviews online/their website. I saw a video of some installer stating you can now put 70% tint on your windshield to block out heat from the front too. haven't heard/seen anyone do this for a DD so I can't say it is a great idea or not but sure does sounds like it would be okay. especially if you're driving east/west haha. Keep us posted on what you decide to do/get.

30-40 always looks great on any color car.
+1 on darker rear window... The lightest I'd go on the rear is 30.

35% looks the best in my opinion. Windows are still dark but not obnoxious or hard to see out of at night. Also 35% doesn't draw as much attention as the darker stuff so cops won't hassle you as much. I had 20% on my previous Audi and 35% now....I doubt I ever go darken then 35% again.

I have 20% on my car. I think it looks great with the black paint. It is below the legal limit and can be difficult to see out of at night if there aren't any streetlights.

35% is the next imo. Though my windshield had it and that can be a semi pain.

Looking into it now and it seems it'll be pretty beneficial in Miami because of the high temperatures. Most likely going to be going with ceramic, thanks for the tip!

Good move. Worth it for sure in terms of heat reduction and longevity. Won't interfere with any cell or sat systems either.

I did 20% on my Sportwagen - It's too dark at night for me. Looked fantastic and I preferred the privacy, but not that practical for a daily driver.

I have Mythos Black and I went the legal setup (for CT) of 35% on the sides, and 20% on the rear, and I couldn't be happier. It looks good during sunny days, looks amazing during night/indirect sun/cloudy days, and I don't have to worry about tickets. Visibility is almost never an issue, although I will lower my windows to double check things in particularly dark areas at night.

    Here's a few miscellaneous shots.

    Semi-sunny day:

    3/4 view:

    Late afternoon before nightfall:

No good shots of the rear, but you can see it's just pretty much blacked out:

Not the best shots. That sky loves to reflect off my car.

I am using Huper Optik 30 all around and no complaints.

Word of advice, take pictures of the window trims, door panels, and weather stripping before you get the tint installed and have it signed off by the installers. I had my windows tinted and they accidentally cut into the weather stripping and then denied their mistake. They also didn't install the door panel properly, so some plastic bit was sticking out and scratched the paint off the doorjamb. Best bet, just watch them while they are installing.

If you really want incredible heat rejection go 3M Crystalline. It really works. Rejects a ton of heat. If not Suntek is excellent stuff.

    +1

I have the Huper Optik Cermaic, which is great. But, newer 3M is better for heat rejection.

EDIT: If you aren't already, I'd consider getting your front windshield tinted as well. It's illegal in my state, but if you get a really light amount of tint you can still get away with it and reap the benefits of the heat rejection. :)

I have 70 on my windshield (3M Crystalline) and can't even tell it's on there ... until you put your hand on the dash after a long hot Florida day. It's crazy what the 3M can do with heat and UV. I recommend it both for internal cooling as well as dash protection :D

Yep, this. The caveats are that first, 3M has a warmer color to the tint than Huber Optiks and others. 3M is the best heat rejection product though. Not sure what color tone the Suntek is, but I thought it was pretty grey/cool tone. Second, if you're looking for that Limo tint look, 3M doesn't get that "blacked" out, like on a 20 even though it will be blocking more heat (weird but true). If you want a light to medium tint, but full heat rejection, 3M Cyrstalline is about your only choice.

for the 3m Crystalline guys. I saw a video review of their film vs the cermaic huper optik. The 3m scratched very easily...although they were using tape and the other example was a scratch pad. I know we wouldn't use that on our windows but has anyone had any issues with their 3m tint scratching easily?

You're confusing the middle grade metallic tint. THAT one can interfer with cell phone GPS reception. Ceramic will not.

Not likely tint related if you actually have Ceramic Tint. Now if the installer put metallic tint and installed the incorrect product you could.

That video was just a ploy by someone to try and degrade 3M. There is no way that film was 3M Crystalline and if it was, it was manipulated in some way. It would not scratched like that at all. I have 3M on my car and I have smacked it with sharp objects and there is no scratches.
