    02 S6 Engine Noise

If the Camshaft Adjuster failed would it cause all cylinders on that bank to misfire and sound like all of the valves are loose. My S6 has 200k on it and has occasionally had a "rattle" at start up, once the oil pressure came up it went away. The other day the the noise didn't go away and and cylinders 5-8 had a misfire. It's at a shop now, I just hope it's not a major issue.

    Thanks

Usually the pads on the adjusters fail and not the adjuster itself but once the pads deteriorate, the cam chain becomes loose and that would definitely lead to misfires.

On my a4 2.8, driver side adjuster squeals during cold starts in morning when its like freezing or about freezing. when its warm doesnt happen. i think its my adjuster, everything in that area was replaced during timing service except the adjuster itself. pads werent touched either so i think maybe one failed.

you can replace the pads themselves or buy a new adjuster for around 150-160 last time i looked.
