Should I buy this? AWE Touring exhaust question!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Someone is selling an AWE touring exhaust which includes the resonated downpipes.

The have all the downpipes, mid muffler, tubing, and hardware, but are missing the two rear resonated mufflers and tips.

They're asking for around 400$ for it, meaning I would have to buy the rear mufflers and tips separately.

I'm not sure where I can buy the rear mufflers and tips separately. Should I still bite on this? Do you guys know how much I could get the rear mufflers/tips for if I were to contact AWE?

I know awe won't sell just the tips. I would contact them before the purchase.

You really need the resonated DPS for no drone.

AWE Touring without rear mufflers = AWE Track ($1,450 new).

These quotes are direct from AWE-

"If drone is a concern, I don't believe the Track Edition would be the right choice."

"The rear sound cancellation resonators are what is primarily responsible for eliminating drone with our Touring Edition exhaust"

I'd contact AWE and see if they'll sell you the "Touring" rear section, and at what price. It would definitely be a good deal if you were planning to just add tips to it, but I'm not sure how cost efficient it will be to get the rest.

Not even just for a second, just to see how it feels?

Seriously, though, OP, I love the sound of my AWE catback system , especially under WOT and at idle. I understand from AWE's literature that the lovely harmonic growl my exhaust now makes is largely the result of the muffler's shape. So strapping on a different muffler to the rest of the AWE system might yield suboptimal results. Also, the resonated DPs don't provide any power gains...those all occur from the increased flow provided by the catback system. The resonated DPs serve only to make the system quieter at highway speeds.

The catback isn't intrusive, but you definitely notice it versus stock when you're tooling along at 65-85. Having non-res means you have to turn up the volume a couple clicks to drown out the exhaust. Having res means you find yourself accidentally going 85 in 4th gear because your car's so quiet under light throttle you forgot to upshift, but you have that same awesome roar under WOT.

In sum, if you can find someone to sell you a stand-alone muffler cheap enough to make the rest of the system a value at $400, pull the trigger. You'll be stoked with the sound, and the power gain is small but real. Otherwise pass. Bolting a non-AWE muffler to an AWE system will never sound right.
