    Audi SQ5 pros / cons

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hi guys I have an S4 that the lease is ending soon

I need more space and looking for an SQ5 (2014-2015-2016) I'm looking for a used one or a brand new lease

They are very rare in Montreal right now

Anything to be aware on this car?

    Any year to avoid?

    How's the 21 inches ?

Fuel consumption is the same as the S4?

    Yes or no

    Thank you

I had the 2010 S4 and now have the 2014 SQ5. I had a second car when I had the S4 (Honda CR-V) and that would take care of the space issue but got the SQ5 for the same reason as yours. I had sold the S4 a while back and thus didn't have any overlap in ownership times between the S4 and the SQ5. The engine is the same with a little more oomph. I don't think you will notice any difference between the two vehicles. The fuel consumption is identical for my case, about 19 mpg. I have the 21 inch rims. But at the time of purchase and even now, it's hard to get a winter setup for those rims. Considering that you are in Montreal it might be a reason not to get the 21's. You will need to spend additional for a winter setup. I don't see anything wrong with the car and it's pretty fun to drive. Let me know if you have any further specific questions.

    Thank you for the answer

I'm looking for the 20 inches A7 setup for winter

My only concern is the resale value of the SQ5 because the model is completely changing next year?

I'm sure resale values will suffer a little with the new model. However, the new model will be the 1st year for vehicles from the brand new facility in Mexico, so there will be buyers looking for previous gen SQ5's and Q5's.

New SQ5 driver here. Picked up a 2016 SQ5 in October, and loving every bit of it. I have 2 kids, One 3 year old and one 6 month old. Both car seats fit great. Plenty of room in the trunk for everyday crap like strollers and groceries. Best part is, when the family isn't in the car I drive it like it should be driven. Super quick and lots of fun. I run the 21's in the summer and I have a nice 19" set with Pirelli Scorpions for the winter from 1010 Tires. Get the 21's for the summer and put on 19's for the winter. Good luck, you won't regret it.

If you plan on getting it tuned, get a Q5 and save some money. If you plan to stay stock, get the SQ5.

I absolutely love my SQ but I have a love hate relationship with the freaking pano! It looks great but makes the car top heavy and it rattles despite having the tsb for the pano taken care of. I also have other minor rattles but I chalk that up to running 21's on these crappy SoCal roads. I'm moving to 22's because I'm a glutton for punishment!

Loved my first SQ so much I bought another. I totally agree with Im-AUDI-Here about the pano roof. I ordered the first one without it, and since that was no longer an option, am thinking about replacing this one with some custom carbon fiber. These things were made for 20-21" wheels. Of course, I've never owned a "winter set," whatever that is. The 21"s are perfect, while the 22"s may be too much for a family wagon/DD. JMO.

I may end up learning that the hard way but I really like the look of the 22's on the Q's. At least wheels are easy to change.

I don't plan any mods maybe except the exhaust

It's for a daily driver and now running 255/35/19 so I do know a little bit about rough ride here in Montreal roads are like Baghdad

Thank you for your help my only concern was resale value on short term but if I choose a 2014-2015 I don't think this is a big concern

I think my 20's ride a little rough on these Socal roads. What's the max tire diameter that fits on this platform without rubbing, spacers different offset wheels? I'd like to move up to a 50 or even 55 series if possible.

I have a lead on someone who could do it, but I've no idea of the cost, yet.

    29.3 inches
Any bigger, and you'd need ridiculously huge spacers to clear the upper portion of that steering knuckle.
You can use this tool to determine the size you want to go with:

I know what Montreal roads are like and think you're not going to like having 21" wheels there. On the upside, if you happen to have a car optioned with them, I have a brand new set of 20" that I'd be happy to trade plus cash on my end if your interested. :)

You have to do a minus -1 wheel to get a 50 series tire which would be a 255/50-19, might be better to try new tires with softer sidewall like Continental dws-06 you'll loose a little handling but will soften the ride.

Can the SQ use 18" wheels for winter? Wasn't sure on the front caliper clearance.

Yes, it can. It barely clears it but you can have it if you wish. I have 19's on mine but did do a fair bit of research with the 18's. 18x8 sized wheels work just fine. You can go wider if you want to.

We live on a rocky rural dirt/gravel rough road. Had our SQ for over a year. No rattles. Perhaps your dealer can help you out?

I have a 2014 SQ5 with about 29k miles. No rattles, other than the rear cargo cover that I fixed with felt tape (search for the DIY I posted. No pano rattles or anything else. 21's are great, but expensive when it comes time to buy new tires. I found some Atturo Tirex AZ850 that work great and only cost me $122 each from onlinetires.com. They have been great tires. Anyway, back to the subject at hand.... Had the SQ5 for a little over two years and it STILL brings a big 'ol smile to my face every time I drive it.

SQ is awesome - moved up to it from the S4 mainly for height (ground clearance) and utility purposes. S4 hood and window were rock magnets, and I got tired of having to watch the road more closely for debris due to low ground clearance. Granted...I REALLY miss the cornering and dexterity of the S4...and I didn't even have the sport diff. SQ is very powerful, sounds great (even better than the S4 IMO) both at idle and WOT. Luggage space with the back seats up is decent...with seats down, space is surprisingly ample. Driver seat-wise, I feel like I'm not as planted in the sport seat as I was in the S4...a little more lateral movement. Being in the midwest, I chose to stay with the 20 inch wheels since I wanted to buy dedicated winter tires (Pirelli Scorpion...also awesome). Through much online research, I heard it was challenging to find winter tires for the 21's...I don't have dedicated winter wheels...

going on 6700 miles and 6 mos...no creaks, rattles, pano issues, yet...knock on wood.

I believe it will 2018 before the new Q5 makes it to the US. That is the reason I bought mine last year.
