From what I read it seems official for the U.S. A4s. Count me in for a scuba blue premium plus!

Anyone have any info on what the option will cost?

as far as i'm aware nothing diesel is official for the US right now...they've got a lil mess to finish figuring out...

The thing is, it would be the small 190hp TDI, not the ~270hp 3.0T TDI. I would rather have the 2.0T gas engine if that's the case, 50hp is a LOT of lost power to make me skip on it.

For this Gen2 Allroad, does anyone know if this means that Audi has really re-designed the current TFSI 2.0 engine?
Quoted: "...The newly developed 2.0 TFSI produces 185 kW (252 hp) and delivers 370 Nm (272.9 lb-ft) of torque between 1,600 and 4,500 rpm. ..."

IIRC, there were those 3 major design issues with the previous engine. 1. inferior Cam Follower ; 2. PCV & Diverter ; 3. causing excessive carbon sludge build-up on the valves

I am even steering away from getting a used Gen1 Allroad due to these issues. Therefore, perhaps if it was a smaller TDi engine, it's still a decent, more reliable engine choice, compared to issues seen with the previous generation TFSI 2.0

    What do you guys think?

You forgot the biggest fault, that oil runs straight through almost all of them. Hopefully they have done there homework this time.

Has Audi confirmed the B9 Allroad is even coming to North America at all in any guise?

Yes, it was even at the Detroit auto show. Like a previous poster mentioned, however, there is no confirmation for any TDI version.

    Each model (B7, B8, B9) has a different version of the 2.0TFSI.

All FSI motors have carbon buildup issues. Gen I (B7) also had the other issues you described. Gen II (B8) seemed to fix those issues, but early models tend to chug oil. Later Gen IIs (B8.5) don't seem to have oil consumption issues. Gen III (B9) is the latest re-design of the 2.0T. Each new generation has had fewer problems, but none have or will be issue free. If you buy any used Audi it has potential to give you issues.

The current B8.5 Allroad 2.0T is one of the most reliable Audis to date, so if you're steering away from that...you might as well just buy a Honda or something.

Allegedly the B9 S4 has cast iron cyclinder liners.

"Audi reduced the internal friction of the engine. Engineers did this by integrating gray cast iron linings into the aluminum alloy engine block, and they developed new piston rings."

"The turbocharged 3.0 TFSI in the Audi S4* and S4 Avant* is an engine that has been redeveloped from the ground up. ....All that it has in common with the previous engine are its bore (84.5 mm (3.3 in)) and stroke (89 mm (3.5 in))."

I spoke to the VW rep at our local auto show. He said the TDI will return for VW this fall. I wonder if that will go the same way Audi did. That being said, the 1.4T seems to pick up where the TDI left off. Certainly not as good of economy or power, but should do pretty good.
