Need help with electrical / plugging B6 S4 Recaro seats in a prius

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Last month I bought a prius from a friend of mine

and I ended up spending x2 the purchasing price making it a decent commuter car.

The whole truth is that I used to daily my little Gallardo (since I used to live so close to work - 8 miles) and after getting the prius I almost crashed in the first corner...

    anyhow back to our issue:

I bought a set of 2005.5 B6 Platinum Recaros which I successfully installed in the prius.

That said I still have a problem powering up the seat heaters. I bought some used harness and Audi switches and I'm using the schematic below to connect them but it doesn't seem to work.

Question: Is the green plug the one for the seat heaters? If so what is the black plug for?

So far I have connected the power (Red plug) and the side airbags to the car and everything seems to be working fine.

Blasphemy. How does someone who drives a Gallardo buy "The Anti-Car"?

Believe me I drive a lot of cars - some of them way faster and more handful than my Gallardo

The Mercedes and 911s are not mine but it's part of my job to test drive vehicles / I'm a strong believer that every car can be made fun to drive and the Prius is an excellent case! When I first drove it, it was probably the least fun car I've ever driven. Now after the new coilovers, TRD rear anti away bar and proper alignment this thing is eager to turn and rotates like a mini during mid corner lift off!

Is it more fun the Lambo the 2,096/350whp Miata or the s1000rr? No way but at the same time it takes your from point a to point b safely without having to worry about people harassing you at the traffic lights and following you to work to take photos...

The seat heaters are working fine, the schematic that I used was okay and my problem was due to a bad contact.
Since I was doing electrical work I also spent a little bit of time and I hardwired my escort and my new dash cam!

Hahahahaha, bravo Sir for the seat swap.

For those that have NEVER driven a Prius, it really IS a terrible car. It's a CVT driven battery on wheels with a lawnmower engine backup. I sincerely hate the wifeys Prius and every time I drive it (which is rarely), I want to drive it into a tree surrounded by thorn bushes. This way, if I try to climb out of the flaming car, I would bleed to death by all the thorns scratching away at my flesh. Haha, but seriously, if wifeys Prius had B6 recaros in it, just maybe I'd hate it slightly less.

You need to get used to the fact that the Toyota engineers don't want to give you all the power at 30% throttle pedal pressure (as it happens with most cars these days) - when you start stepping at the throttle 100% it moves easily though the traffic and still does 30 mpg or so...

It's funny that when I got the car from my coworker the mpg on the trip computer was 48 - never seen anything even remotely close to that the way I drive it! Currently it shows around 36-38 I think - when I drive like a complete ass passing everyone in the fwy and hitting 3ple digits it shows around 25! Still that 25 mpg is way better even than my motorcycle (22mpg) Lambo (11) or the race Miata (16mpg but e85) - not that I care about mpg but just out of scientific interest!

Haha..hold on, i have video experimenting with this; I applied 100% throttle at a light after a red in an attempt to hit 60, longest 20seconds of my life!

CVT's are very good in theory, but I don't think any manufacturer has really nailed it yet, despite being around for quite a while now. They're definitely not for people who like to drive, but they work for people who have to commute.

Not sure what kind of Prius you are talking about but in the company that I work for we have measured many priuses and they are about 9 sec to the 60 - Prius c for some reason is slower but definitely not 20 sec / maybe yours had a problem with its batteries.

Some of the fastest custom made racecars have cvt units for a gearbox (taken out snowmobiles). I agree that they are horrible but that's mainly due to the engine noise they create.
The Prius eCVT transmission is different than the one from Audi since it actually uses gears not a belt.

Ha. The US spec b6 recaros are already an inch or two wider in the back than the euro versions. Looks like the prius has the Fat American mod x2.

The audi version uses a wide chain, not a belt. Same dumb idea though. The Nissan version uses a belt now too, but the older version had two spherical "gears" that rotated relative to the input/output shafts. Pretty cool but apparently not so great in practice...

I agree though. Cvt is great in theory but nobody has really made a great one for production cars yet.

Any power mods planned for the prius? Maybe a Tesla house battery in a trailer? Haha.

Wifey's old Murano was a CVT AWD thing; thanks to that experience, i've been tainted with CVTs

Actually the Hybrid CVTs are quite different:
CVTs should be distinguished from power-sharing transmissions (PSTs), as used in newer hybrid cars, such as the Toyota Prius, Highlander and Camry, the Nissan Altima, and newer-model Ford Escape Hybrid SUVs. CVT technology uses only one input from a prime mover and delivers variable output speeds and torque, whereas PST technology uses two prime mover inputs and varies the ratio of their contributions to output speed and power. These transmissions are fundamentally different.

I put a K&N filter the sticker should be good for 3,5 HP :D

Seriously though I'm looking for ideas to increase the voltage going to the motor but not an easy way to do it.
It's a very interesting car since it can't be modified easily - there is a guy who put a supercharger and then a turbo but the car wasn't faster! Apparently the ECU was using the extra power to charge the batteries instead of burning rubber!

I drove the Lambo to the gym today since the Prius was
Out for windshield replacement (a week after installing Llumar ceramic windshield tint ). Parked and walked towards the entrance, halfway to the door a hot looking skinny girl started yelling at me while pointing at the car. Walked back, and in closer inspection I'm realizing the skinny girl looks like a meth addict with half of the teeth missing.

What's up, I'm asking, "is it leased or purchased?" She is asking... (Wtf) it's purchased I'm saying and she continues "I knew it, we have been following you all the way and my bf was saying that is leased while i said that its purchased"
    - me looking at her confused (wtf and the point is what again) -
Then she looks at me and asks "do you have some change?"

My point is that shit like that happened all the time!
The other day an African American kid with his friends was leaning on the door taking photos while I was going back to my car ready to leave.
I said hi to him and then he wanted to sit in it and take photos. After we done with that and while I was ready to take off he wanted me to give him my card so he can have the car for one of his upcoming rap videos

To me the Gallardo is not even a super crazy Lambo - is one of the most civilized ones and a relatively old shape. I got it because I love it as a machine / a pure breed car made for a specific purpose to go fast.
Due to the above I was got by surprise with all this attention / especially in a place like LA and San Diego where super cars are not rare by any means. People followed me to work and ask to take photos, women literally giving me their number without me asking for it (I'm not joking) - all these are new to me!

(photo from last summer when I let my 13 year old niece drive my car)

Anyways back to my majestic Prius

The seats heater have been connected properly and the switches were installed! I also installed LED hidden light in the footwell area. I think they look good but might be tiring in long roadtrips during the night.

The BMW i8 (which I was testing for a week a few months back) had similar lighting and I really loved it (talking about the i8 - that's an amazingly fresh design / that car was also turning some heads - I just wish it was faster)

Google says the i8 is only 0.2sec slower in the quarter than the Gallardo. Does it feel slower than the lambo or is it just that you think it should feel faster than it is?

I love the look and the tech of the i8 but from what I just read maybe it still needs a little refinement.

Completely different feeling between the i8 and the Gallardo. The i8 is extremely fast off the line and feels like a supercar in low speeds due to the instant torque of the electric motor. By the time you are driving in higher speeds (where the real hp counts) it feels that it runs out of steam. The Gallardo feels way faster in most cases other than off the line acceleration.

The sounds is another thing too, with the i8 you get simulated sound through the speakers but to bystanders still sounds like a 3 cylinder 1.5lit mini engine - in the Gallardo you hear some of the most amazing v10s.
