Question Door lock actuator, maybe 8K0839016G ?

    Hey Guys,

I'm brand new to this site and owning an Audi. I just bought the car a few days ago with no warranty.

I'm having issues with my REAR PASSENGER-SIDE door unlocking with the fob. I can lock it with the fob with no issues, but the only way to unlock it is the double handle pull from the inside. I've been looking around on here and it seems obvious that it's the door lock actuator. I read through probably a dozen of the threads about this issue and they all seem to point at that actuator.

Where I'm having the real issue is finding the right part number. My car was manufactured 11/08/08. I saw on one of the threads that the parts were different for 11/2 and before as apposed to 11/3 and after. I googled to find the right parts and, unfortunately, some of the sites have conflicting information on the right part. I'm fairly certain that the correct part number is 8K0839016G, which is what is says on ecstuning.com, but I want to make sure before I order it. Does anyone know for sure? Also, does anyone have a recommendation on where to buy? I'd prefer not to spend $270 on it if I don't have to.

you are so close to the cutoff I would suggest removing the panel and taking a look before you purchase a replacement.

I just replaced my pass front yesterday and it was a 30 minute procedure.

You make a good point. I better check it out first.

Once you get the part #, check ebay or http://www.car-part.com/ for a used one. Could be a lot cheaper than used from ECS. There are also often some complete car part-outs in the classifieds of AZ where you might pick up a used one for under $100.

Well, I finally figured out the part number. It turns out to be 8K0839016G like I was thinking. I looked around online, including ebay, and didn't find any real great deals. I ended up ordering it from a Porsche Dealership (Sunset Porsche) and got it brand spanking new for 100 bucks, plus $20 for shipping. Now why an Audi Dealership and ECS are charging over twice as much, I don't know.

I gotta say, I'm glad you told me about AZ, blbroo. Pretty neat place.

Someone mentioned in a post recently that they found parts cheaper through Porsche dealers than at Audi or VW. Nice find!

Bring your car up and we can do some vag-com coding on it.

Very strange. I guess Porsche owners can't afford the Audi parts prices Sunset is also an Audi dealer at the same location. They sell Audi parts online under AudiUSAparts.com. Out of interest, I checked and the same part number on their Audi site is $202. it would be interesting to compare some other common parts, but I don't know if Porsche parts are available online.

Edit: Sunset also has a site for Porsche parts.....

Thanks, man. That would be really cool. I'll actually be moving further North in a few months. Probably the Herculaneum or Arnold area. That's what, half an hour away from you, right?

Ya know, I've seen you guys mention vag-com on here. I don't really know much about it. So you just hook up a PC through OBD2?

Lol. Exactly. I didn't see that sunset also had a site for Audi, but that makes the price difference even crazier. The same company selling the same part for twice as much? Must be based on demand.

Yeah, Arnold is less than 30 minutes from Town and Country.

The vag-com cable is good for coding non stock features, logging and rear brake changes. Since I know your father well, mine is yours anytime you need it.

    Bad news.

The door lock actuator finally came in. I took everything apart to install it. Wrong part. I don't know how I did it, but I checked in inside the door before ordering the part and, since you can't actually see it, I checked it by feel and thought I felt the flatter connector (8K0839016G) but apparently I was wrong..... and Sunset Porsche doesn't do returns on electronic parts.

So I just ordered the right part (8K0839016A) and I guess I'll be putting the other one up for sale on here.

ah man I wish I saw this earlier. the production cutoffs are 11/3/2009 before and after, so you would definitely be before since yours is a 2008. also, ECS Tuning has the Porsche part on their site also listed way below the Audi price. still have no idea why that is the case, but I will put Porsche parts on my car. maybe I will add that to the description when I sell my car...premium Porsche performance lock actuators sound cool

It's always best to call the dealer and get the part number that corresponds to your VIN.

Got the right part in the mail a couple days ago and just had the time to replace it. With all the info on here and that you guys provided, it was pretty straightforward. Thanks, fellas.

What DIY did you use to rip apart the door? I am looking to do the same once the weather warms.
Or did you simply just start unscrewing things and hoping for the best?

Cheers, glad it worked out for you!

    Thanks!

I used this thread to find out how to take the door apart.
    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/627921-DIY-Removing-Rear-Door-Panel-Fixing-Broken-Interior-Door-Handle

This kit is what I used to take the door panel off. http://www.autozone.com/test-scan-an...?checkfit=true

You'll also need a T25 torx bit for the door panel screws and an 8mm triple square bit for the lock actuator screws (although I used a T40 torx bit and it worked okay).

I used this thread to see how to take the cables loose.
    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...t-w-*Pictures*

On the rear door, the inner door handle cable doesn't run through the removable inner plastic cover like on the front. It has it's own little channel through the door, which is not a big deal to just pop the grommet inward and push the cable into the hole to get it out of the door. You can see what I'm talking about in this picture here. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...ps527053ac.jpg

The outer door handle cable was pretty difficult for me to disconnect while the lock actuator was inside the door (sausage fingers, maybe?) so I actually ended up unhooking everything else from the lock actuator and pulling the actuator out of the door with the cable attached. It was just long enough to get it right at the edge of the door opening where I could reach it easier. This thing here. http://i1220.photobucket.com/albums/...ckReplace3.png

    Hope this helps!

Very helpful thanks. I will take a look at that other thread as well.
Please dont delete your photobucket pictures for a little while ( I want to print them as I feel they might help me when the time comes for me to do them).
Both of my actuators have gone AWOL, so I will be doing this soon. Although I might scour the area to see if I can find a B8 in the junk yard so I can practice tearing apart a junked door before I do my own.

Estimated time of tear down and installment?

    Thanks again!

No prob. Although, those weren't my pics so you may wanna save them soon. I really wish I would have done a complete diy for that myself. That's actually what I do for a living, writing standard procedures. I may tear it all back apart and take the pics when I get a free day to do so.

How long? About 45 minutes total.

I have the same problem with my rear passenger door as well. I don't really get that many people in the back seat very often so I don't really feel like fixing it right now, but at least now I know where to find the info when I do want to fix it.
