Reminder - Correct electronic oil level check at present moment on DIS!

Big thank to Stevee from Russia,

Found something interesting from Russian forum, have not seen this before. Should be correct electronic procedure to measure actual oil level at present moment. Just translate page with google toolbar or similar and test. People who dont have oil temp, just make a bit longer drive, as reported it will not measure if engine(oil) is not properly warm. Should work on all B8+B8,5 with electronic oil level gauge and who have reset button on the right lever!

    https://www.drive2.ru/l/6257833/

1.After drive, stop and shut off the car on even ground
    2. After 3-5 minutes pull the bonnet release and open drivers door
3.Switch ignation on(dont touch pedals or start the car)
4.Press reset button on the right lever twice etc and oil level should appear in DIS.

    Enjoy testing:)

I'm a little like you. If I just had the hood open, I get in the car, turn on the ignition without starting the car, go to the MMI and wait about a minute.

I'm not even sure why people are popping hoods and opening doors.
I just get home from a drive wait 2 minutes and check mmi. I'm obviously missing something about this thread

Same boat. I'm not sure what all the extra steps mentioned above do, other than create more work.

If you've just popped the hood you'll get no reading on the MMI. I'm guessing that'd be why.

I am guessing the reset button erase old value and force start a new reading.

If the car is saying the message rather than displaying an oil level, all you do is make sure the engine is warm (ie, go drive it) and then turn the car off (press start/stop twice or open a door to get complete power off). Then turn the power (but not the engine) back on and go to the oil level display in MMI and wait till it shows a level. There's no need to do any "reset". I don't know if this will give you an oil level bar if the engine is cold; I don't know if these "reset" procedures will give you an oil level bar if the engine is cold.

If the hood is open, the oil level will display in the DIS.

It may be to save a tech a few seconds during an oil change, or in case the car doesn't have MMI.
