Had a great time traveling to Detroit to go see that big car show. The drive to the show was uneventful. So was the drive home. Car sat at home for a day as I worked from home. Today, I drove to work and was getting a big rattling noise with the car cold and in gear. Noise would go away if the clutch was pressed in and was less evident in gears 4-6.
Stopped at the local shop to have things checked out. Turned out my front left and rear right axles were shot and making the noise I was hearing. Have new axles on order to get replaced next week.
While they were doing inspections, they're seeing the driveshaft has about 4 months of life left and needs replaced. It's the original driveshaft with 316,000 miles on it. I think it has done well.
I'm trying to get info on what options I have for a replacement. I have a 2004 A4 6 speed with quattro. It's one of the early Ultrasport models built (built 9/11/2003). Am I limited to just B6 A4 6 speed driveshafts?
Seems new ones can be anywhere from $500 up to $1500+ (for new OEM). Have seen a used one listed on eBay for $160, but not sure if it's the right one. Don't know what the right part number is.
What options do I have?
