Guys i'm having some work done on my car tomorrow and it'll already be up in the air and was going to have the shop do the MTF drain/refill. My car has 72k miles on it.

I live in ohio, so it get's pretty hot and really cold.

should i stick with genuine Audi MTF? or redline? Redline recommends a 75W-80, I'm not educated enough to know if that will be too heavy for the cold. I want a good year-round oil. Thoughts? Thanks!

Redline has caused difficult shifting in the cold for some people.

There's a mix of Redline and BG Synchroshift that us ex-Mitsubishi guys live by. My 2005 Eclipse has 140k on it and it still shifts buttery smooth to this day. I don't know if anything like that is even applicable to the Audi 6MT though, so this could be Apples and Oranges. But just adding food for thought.

I've always heard a lot of people like the Motul Gear 300. Its around the same price as OEM but supposed to be a better fluid and shifts like butter in cold temps.

Same with the Mitsu crowd. Blending 1qt of BG Synchroshift was the fix.

EDIT: I'm actually gonna stop commenting. I have a feeling it's not even going to be applicable in this topic. Lol

I used FUCHS fluid, see it in my posts near the end of that thread. Shifting was a little stiff in 8 degree temps, but not near locked up.

I was never able to find the full spec, other than 75W.

If you do redline get 75w-90 its what is used in the diy and I bought it myself . Haven't actually put it in my car has been sitting around but I did buy 6 quarts so I had extra for the rear diff. The manual transmission is a transaxle so the when you change it your also changing the front diff

I would strongly suggest that you stick with the OEM fluid; I changed mine to redline, had cold weather issues (and it gets DARN COLD up here). Switched back to Audi fluid, and it's been flawless.

Stick with genuine OEM gear oil.....Is it worth the gamble to save $50 ????????

I had bad experience many years ago with Redline......
