Unhappy Help please! Lost FOB key - have emergency/plastic FOB in ignition - can't start?

    Hi guys...

I have two standard keys - one stashed 300 miles away, the other probably down the side of a couch at a mate's about 20 minutes away (took my FOB with him I'm guessing, along with my chinos I lent him...) - and one emergency key with me, paired with the plastic FOB from the glovebox.

I've managed to get into my car without triggering any alarm, and have the FOB in the ignition. Dash lights turn on, but I just can't get the car to start. Just a lot of clicking noises from the ignition when I push in... MMI not starting up. I have the push to start button too, which doesn't do a lot when pressed either...

    Am I missing something here?

    I have a 2010 A4 B8, 2.0T Quattro DSG S-Line, MMI 3G...

Had a look around, couldn't find anything concrete, other than I may need to "re-code" my emergency key? Not much use if this is the case...

Any help would be much appreciated.

Did you try pushing the fob to start the ignition instead of the start button?

Just to be clear. Your emergency key is inserted into the emergency fob? The fob is in the fobgina. And you tried pushing the fob to start instead of the button? Is that right?

Yep, tried that first. That's when I get the clicking sound. It lasts for about 5 seconds after I push the fob in. Almost like something's not latching on... but have no problem when using the standard fob key in there.

Also made sure both Audi rings are facing up, after coming across that tip on the forum.

    Cheers

Exactly right. Sorry, could've been a little clearer. Fobgina - one to add to the Audi vocab

Is the clicking coming from the engine bay?

Nope, from within the mystical fobgina itself... Definitely that, or some other component behind/next to it. It sounds like it's trying to grab the fob or position it properly, only to repeatedly fail and make clicking sounds as it tries.

Call the Audi road side assistance. I'm assuming they have the service in NZ. They may be able to walk you through it.
