Hello guys. So before I bought my b7 s4 Ive always afraid of its going to breaks down on me. Today it broke down on me. I got home from work and then I had to head out again and it just won't start anymore. It would make a click sound then nothing. The headlight, dash, radio and a/c still works when I turn the car on but when I tried to start it it would only click then nothing. I tested the battery voltage is. its normal. tried jumpstarting and still nothing. Im thinking it might be the starter but I ask around and did some research some says it still might be the battery.......holy c@$p....

Anyone ever experience this before? I can really use some help now cuz I really have to go out tomorrow

I think that it is most likely the starter because if it was the battery then jump starting it would gets it going

My first thought after reading OPs title was about timing chain failure.. Then after reading the first sentence, I wanted to know what year is the car hoping it's not 2006+. It ended up being his starter not turning over... You scared me for a bit sir with your dramatic title and story. Well played

Yeah, OP may not have the correct intestinal fortitude to be a B6/7 S4 owner. A lot of drama for a starter problem.

These cars are a rollercoaster ride -- I might suggest Lexapro.

If you happen to be in SE Michigan, German Motor Werks in Waterford is an outstanding shop. My brother lives up there and uses them as needed -- they've given him a lot of great free advice as well.

same thing happened to me I thought the alternator went out but it was the belt and pulley that needed replacing

If you react this badly when your starter is bad, I can't imagine how you'll react when your timing chain will need to be repaired.

lol op...trust me when i say that cars break down. a starter is the least of your worries (if it is indeed the starter) Have you checked for voltage drop at the starter? lets think about this logically. If you do indeed have voltage at the starter and you don't have a huge voltage drop while trying to crank it, then pull the starter and bench test it. If it tests bad...replace it. Go through a systematic diagnosis before you start throwing parts at it like a throttle position sensor lol

Exactly, you need to be smart with these types of cars (any expensive 10-year-old German car). Diagnose and then repair. I had a starting issue a few months back, and my thought immediately went to the starter going bad on me. We'll I tested the starter and it was fine. My attention (with some aid from my brother) then went to the fuel pump and filter. Changed out the filter first (cheaper of the two) which did not fix the issue. Finally replaced the pump and it was all good.

Just be smart and use resources that are available to you. Like VinnysS4 said, don't just start throwing parts at it.

Mine has done this twice. Killed two batteries in a year. Last time Audi had it for 3 days trying to diagnose it. For some reason I got two bad batteries in a row. But both times it drove fine all day I shut it off for 20 minutes went back and click click click nothing. They had to test my battery like 4 times.

It's a long story, and it's hardly a knock at Audi.. It involves nitrous and used motors and some bad luck.
