    Honda denies warranty for "Over-Revving"

    http://toronto.ctvnews.ca/costly-eng...k&_gsc=0EPQErG

And I thought Honda built bullet-proof engines.

“I was doing about 60 (kph) and the next thing you know I hear a loud grinding sound,” he said. “The car, electrically, would fire up, but the motor is seized.

    Honda's reponse

“The engine,” the letter added, “had registered an ‘over-rev code’ during operation. No warranty shall cover any repair required as a result of a collision, accident, neglect, racing, or misuse.

Is there any reason why "Over-Revving" could cause an engine to seize even if there was a tune unless the engine had a defect.

    First off, chatterbox.

Second, over-revving from VTEC RACEKOR or over-revving from missed gears?

man, interesting story. I know i had an '03 civic and coming out of a parking lot into a feeder road, I thought I was in 2nd but.....nope, I was still in 1st. floored that joker until the engine cut off. it came back on once the RPMs came back down and did not have an issue with it at all. I wonder what this person was doing to their car. I'm sure there are a lot of things at play on this one. But it is possible it was just a bad engine. =/

    Ah, jumped the gun.

MODs anyway to move this to chatter ?

It does not say what was done on the engine. Just Honda denied warranty for over-revving.

I was wondering this as well. Unless the driver had completely ignored all maintenance or done some crazy level of mod/tune how can an engine seize for over-revving unless there was something faulty with the engine.

The same goes for Audi. I'm not sure of any manufacturer that doesnt have a fault code in place to tell them of over-revs. The code is from money shifting not from hitting redline. You can bang against the rev limiter all day long. If you over-rev the car by downshifting to the wrong gear though, you're going to buy yourself a new motor as you should.

    example of code.

The techs at Jim Ellis Audi of Atlanta Money shifted my car - I pulled the code when I picked it up before I drove off. I texted my SA and he said not to worry about it, Audi would cover any future warranty claims. Interesting, since Im already TD1 - and I have the ability to clear the DTC, which I did, after taking pictures of course.

geez that's crazy - I bought my ride via jim ellis of Atl.

Honda did say that they would pay for part of the repair at the end of the article.
