Seriously? Get a car you can afford. These go fund me things have gotten ridiculous. The other day I heard a lady had a go fund me page since she spent her life savings on Powerball tickets. This is almost as bad.

Sorry to hear about this. That being said this should be a learning experience. You should never buy cars you can't afford to fix, especially if they are going to be out of warranty.

I have to agree with the person above about the gofundme. People have to learn to take care of themselves and not expect a handout when things go wrong.

    +1 to this.

Don't expect us to foot the bill because you can't afford the car.

Do you know why you need a replacement diff? Can it be fixed DIY maybe? How about getting a quote from an Indy shop?

Or sell the car [acknowledging the defect] and buy something that you can afford easier.

ahsan, not trying to be insensitive here, but in the scheme of things this is very very trivial stuff, i know it may seem important to you at the moment, but i promise you its not.

you have a couple of options:

    1. go to the bank of mommy and daddy and get sweetheart deal on a loan.
    2. trade the car in at any dealership anywhere and get yourself a nice used honda civic/toyota corolla.

you will get through this i promise you that.

Agree with the above. Time to sell your late model, high performance luxury car and get something you can afford.

Get a beater car and live off roman noodles like most of us did in college and get a car you can afford (to drive, insure, maintain, etc.) after college. I get that it doesn't hurt to at least try and ask for assistance from Audi but, to post the whole thing here and ask for a handout? Come on.....

Metal eh? What kind of metal? Shavings? Broken pieces? Drain the oil , new oil and let it roll son!

If broken, do this. Look around on www.car-part.com for a used unit---people around here can help you maybe if you take down the crowdfunding BS--then pick it up and have a typical car repair joint install it. A differential is not a hard thing to replace with a lift and tools. Maybe less than $1000 even. Dont trip on a $6900 brand new unit---not needed. Get a used unit from a trashed low mileage car.
You cant afford not to fix it--- blow it out to an enthusiast for like 3 or 4 grand less than what it would be worth running. That might incentivize someone to pick it up on the cheap fix it themselves and use it or flip it for a couple grand profit. Right?

I have to agree with the other members. We need to understand the "what if" scenario before stepping into the luxury car market.

I agree with this. If you buy used, perhaps get the extended warranty that is offered or, in my case, CPO. you will have up to 100k miles to have audi fix it. Cost to fix/replace should always be worked into a buying decision.

I even had a conversation with the Audi manufacturer with didn't turn out to anything either:

An online assistant will be with you shortly.

Jenna M. said: Hello Ahsan Mithani. My name is Jenna M.. How can I help you?

Ahsan Mithani said: I just got told that my vehicle has metal in the sports differential

Ahsan Mithani said: I do not have warranty and they quoted me to spend $6900

Ahsan Mithani said: I want to see if Audi can help because of the TSB

Ahsan Mithani said: for the sport differential

Jenna M. said: I regret to here you are having this issue. In order for us to look into this we will need some additional information. Do you have your VIN? Which Audi dealership are you working with?

Ahsan Mithani said: I just bought the car a few months ago

Ahsan Mithani said: I bought the vehicle from Audi Morton Grove

Jenna M. said: Do you have your VIN?

Ahsan Mithani said: Yes, I'm getting it for you right now

Jenna M. said: Take your time.

    Ahsan Mithani said: [VIN]

Ahsan Mithani said: This is my second Audi, and I have loved every second of it

Ahsan Mithani said: I want to stay in the Audi family, but I'm having a hard time being able to do that, without some help.

Ahsan Mithani said: I'm a full time college student & Full time employeed trying to make ends meet.

Ahsan Mithani said: and affording something like this would mean me having to skip 1-2 semesters of school, because I would be unable to pay for it.

Jenna M. said: We are happy to hear you love your vehicle and want to remain with the brand. I will create a case for you and we will use our internal resources to see if financial assistance will be possible. Can you please verify the mailing address so I can add this concernto your profile?

    Ahsan Mithani said: [ADDRESS]

Ahsan Mithani said: I really need this help, this is my final option, I don't know what else I can do. Jenna M. said: Thank you for that. I was able to locate your profile. Approximately how many miles are on your vehicle?

    Ahsan Mithani said: 83,500

Jenna M. said: Is the vehicle currently at the dealership?

Ahsan Mithani said: Its currently at Audi Hoffman Estates

Jenna M. said: Is there anyone specific you have been working with at the dealership?

Ahsan Mithani said: No name that I can remember to be completely honest

Ahsan Mithani said: I'm more so in shock right now.

Jenna M. said: That is ok. Have you been servicing your vehicle at this particular dealership?

Ahsan Mithani said: No, this is the first time I've brought it to Audi Hoffman Estates

Ahsan Mithani said: I usually get my vehicles serviced at Audi Morton Grove

Jenna M. said: I do apologize you are having this experience, Ahsan. Here at Audi of America, our obligation is to make sure we service our vehicle under the terms of it's warranty, Your vehicle being outside of the warranties by parameter and time, it is unlikely we will be able to assist. Have you asked the dealership for assistance? We would also recommend speaking to Audi Morton Grove as you have loyalty established with their facility.

Ahsan Mithani said: I understand that my vehicle is out of warranty, but I'm asking out of courtesy if you can help.

Ahsan Mithani said: Audi is a well established company, and I am a guy who is just attempting to make ends meet.

Ahsan Mithani said: And having to pay something like this is going to make my life impossible.

Jenna M. said: I understand, but we work in conjunction with our dealerships to administer financial assistance for repairs. Any repairs outside of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty will come from the dealership. Have you spoken to them about assistance?

Ahsan Mithani said: Yes, but I was hoping that Audi USA could help me as well

Ahsan Mithani said: Is there nothing that Audi can do?

Jenna M. said: Did the dealership offer any assistance?

Ahsan Mithani said: I only ask because it is my last resort

Ahsan Mithani said: I have absolutely no other choices.

Ahsan Mithani said: They said that they would get back to me about Assistance, but haven't yet.

Jenna M. said: I understand, but i apologize we will not be able to meet your expectation as the vehicle is outside of warranty. Any assistance will need to come from the dealership.

    Ahsan Mithani said: ...Thank you

Jenna M. said: Are there any further questions your have for you?

Ahsan Mithani said: No thank you, have a great day

If you can help, I would greatly appreciate it:

$0 raised in an hour. Good.

To the OP, sorry about your car, but you rolled the dice buying something that you can barely afford and unfortunately you didn't get lucky. I drove inexpensive and reliable cars in college, and bought my first Audi the year after I graduated once I was able to comfortably afford it. Trade the car in for the nicest Civic you can get, and drive that until an Audi is financially manageable (not barely possible). Sounds harsh, but your bank account and credit rating will thank me.

You have to pay to play, and mechanical items do have a tendency to fail. That being said, some have asked some valid questions that I have a feeling you haven't asked. For example; what do these pieces of metal look like? etc. If this were my car, I would take it from the stealership, and maybe take it to the dealer you bought it from; a second opinion can't hurt, except in diagnosis fees. Even then though, you don't have to buy a brand new DSG, or even complete the work at Audi. I'm sure you can find an indy shop in the Chicago area.

Thats what is sensible. Heck I used to take the bus or bike my way to college. Got an A4 when I could afford one. Paid off my student loans as a priority. And then I went ahead to get an A6.

Right?
You're right, I'm going to do it myself. My uncle has a body shop and he'll let me use a lift. I know the GoFundMe thing wasn't the best idea , but can you guys now help me figure out how I should go about fixing this sports differential myself?

Thanks for the harsh comments, they keep me grounded.

Also he had been modifying his S4 which would be the last thing I would be doing if I could barely afford my car.

you need to know whats wrong with it before you ask how to fix it.

also: whats the payoff on the loan amount left on the car -- perhaps you can leverage that and get into something more manageable for you.

you might be able to overcome one mechanical failure...but what are you gonna do when the next one happens?

That said, lets start the bidding. I'll give you $10k for the car as is -- even with the shit plastidip.

I can somewhat sympathize with this because if my sports diff went tomorrow I'd be SOL and probably sell that car. That being said I only bought mine because I got it for price that carmax offered the previous owner, so if i sold today I could probably profit, and knew the full service history. To be honest, I'd sell the car privately. The dealer would probably give you 14k, if you're very lucky, and privately you may be able to get 16k or so if someone can source a used diff and runs a shop or has a friend who does. Also, as Ryan just said above what about the next repair. At 84k miles you could be looking at a new clutch soon ($2k), if you're 6MT, or mechatronics issues if you're DSG. Also if your car hasn't had brakes done yet, it will need them soon which will push $1k.

I'd say get as much as possible for the car and move on to a Focus ST with a little warranty left if you're still set on something fun, a civic or corrola if you want to be more responsible

Lastly, if you're gonna mod your car and money is a bit tight, start with used parts you can pull off easily that you won't lose much on reselling later.

Thats the thing, I have money saved up for all that, I even have a few thousand for a situation like this, but I don't have $6,900. I would even be able to do it if they could finance it, but they don't.

This is why I drove a beater Mustang in College, but live and learn. Good luck, odds are your best option is to source a used one and do the repairs yourself.

Then shop around at some Indy garages

    $6900 is dealer pricing

I'm sure it could get done for less

But seriously, what happens when the next thing goes? Because it will.

In my opinion (and I believe the majority opinion here) fix it then get something more affordable now for your financial situation
