    Car Not Backing Up???

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey there,

Had a quick question for you more experience Audi peeps. My newer 2014 Audi A4 appears it may have an issue with getting into gear. The car has around 23K miles on it. On cold mornings aka 24-32 degrees I always try to warm my car up before I drive away but I sit in the car for 15-20 mins and sometimes it will back up and sometimes it won't. The other day I waited 20+ mins and had to leave my house so I finally put in reverse and have to rev it a little and it jerked and then finally I could back up. I am wonder what might be causing this, if it is a normal thing due to complex transmission, a safety feature so you don't ruin your tranny from driving it so quick after jumping in, or if there might be something wrong going on here. As I posted on other posts I am a new Audi owner and am in need of some help.

    Comments are welcomed please!

    Thank you,

    -Alex

Do you still have warranty on it? If so, fuck it up by doing what you're doing even more and take it in. Otherwise, I wouldnt even drive it. And no, it isnt normal. At all

Shit, you wait 20 mins? I just wait until the Rpms go to 800-900. Then baby it until the coolant temps reach a qrt.

And yes take it in. That is not normal at all. Do follow up with us though after the dealer fixes it.

That is definitely not normal, bring it in. Your warranty should cover it.

But rumored to be a standard feature on future models.

I once had a B5 Passat with a similar problem in its ZF tranny. Probably a stuck valve body or seal. Two choices, warranty service or sell.

Hmm, I always thought this was normal. I don't let my car sit and idle to warm up. When I put into reverse I always have to tap the accelerator to get it going, If i only release the brake pedal it won't move or hardly moves. And before you ask no the parking brake is not engaged.

Does this happen only on startup in the morning? Do you see any oil stain under your car? If you do not have any codes, the service technichian will ask you to replicate the problem for them to acknowledge that indeed there is something wrong with the car. I am pretty sure you still have warranty on that car unless your already TD1. Also, you do not have to wait for up to 20 minutes to warm up your car. The longer you idle your car in the cold, the more detremental it is to your engine. Read an article about this yeterday evening. As Good luck.

Sorry to suggest this but, you're taking the electronic parking brake off first, right?
What you describe sounds like what would happen if you had the EPB on and tried to start moving in drive, it dis-engages at a specific torque level. Not sure if that would apply in reverse though.

Are you parked on a steep slope. Auto trans has a hill hold feature as well. It can be a bit abrupt.
