Will Album Art show up in the MMI screen when connected to iPod?

I have an iPod mini and it never does. I've been reading in the Audi UK owners site that they have the ability to show album art with some special cable.

Has anyone had any success with album art in the B8.5 S5? Just wasn't sure if this was limited to European S5's or if ours have this capability as well. Any input?

Im pretty sure you need a special Audi cable to connect to the AMI and get full function re art etc.

Some AMI cables only provide basic functionality - audio and charging.

If you connect your media via wifi it will show album art. I can't confirm if it's directly connected though.

Edit: you have to use the audi app downloaded from the app store..so not for sure if that would even work with the nano

I have the yellow grommet lighting cable and album art works for me! I couldn't get video to work though.

I believe you need the red grommet version of the 30-pin AMI cable for album art.

I imported all my songs with the Audi app, and then what do you do? I connect my iphone 6 with Bluetooth? or am I missing something. I do have an expired data plan with Tmobile so the card is still in there. Do I need to connect to my car's wifi for it to show up?

Yea you'll need to connect it to the cars wifi. I'm not for sure if the hotspot will show up or work if your sim isn't activated.

The hotspot still works, but it obviously doesn't give internet. My 6 month trial ended, and I can no longer get the audi connect app to stream music to the MMI, so I'm guessing you do have to have the service for it to work

If you have the right cable, the album art will show up, assuming you have artwork in the files. For the 30 pin connector, you need the cable with the red grommet as mentioned above. For the lightning connector (I think there is only one part number), the album should show up just fine.

it then begs the question, why pay for the internet service for album art if you can just stream with blue tooth?

and I still use my phone when I drive so that awkward placement in the glove compartment wont help me lol.

maybe I should go the SD card route with the jukebox

On my 2013 RS5, the bluetooth control mechanism is really crude at best. You get track info but no album art and no navigation other than track forward/back so I don't use it. Personally, I use an ipod touch in my glove box with a lightning connector and everything works perfectly, with album art and full library navigation. Having an ipod touch is kinda nice as it will sync remote via itunes with my wi-fi network when I pull in the garage. I'm really looking forward to using Apple Carplay once it becomes wireless (this year or next) instead of having to plug in the iphone in order for it to work. I'm not sure why Apple / Android didn't go straight to wireless with their car solutions, but presumably it was due to power drain on the device and complexity / cost.

Update for anyone who is interested. I ordered the cable with the red grommett. I attached my iPod Nano and it showed the album art but there was no sound. No matter how many settings I changed I couldn't get any sound to come through. So... I went and bought an iPod Touch. Went through the whole upgrading of iTunes and synching of the iPod Touch. No luck. After many minutes of trying to connect, I got a message saying there was no playable media in the iPod Touch. So, out of desperation I finally just plugged back in my Nano. Voila! There is not only sound but album art. So, the cable with the red grommett is definitely the key to getting album art and it does work with the Nano. Not sure why I can't get it to work with the Touch, but who cares at this point.
