    Floor Mat Fasteners

I tried doing a search about this but I couldn't figure it out. I got coco mats for Christmas for the S6 and when they arrived I noticed that the fastener holes are different from stock. I tried calling them to ask about it but they haven't gotten back to me. Perhaps I need to remove the connectors on the stock mats to make them fit? Or does anyone know how the fastener posts that are attached to the floor come off? Not really sure what route to go. Any help would be appreciated.

Did they come from CocoMats.com? Those look more like sisal mats or Furstil mats from CocoMats. They are not coco. I' have CocoMats in both cars, and I know one of the owners. They use grommets that match the car. Should snap on the post on your floor. Those do look a bit big. Call the number on their website, they are usually very good about returning calls. http://www.cocomats.com

You're absolutely right, they are Furstil mats from cocomats.com. It's strange because on their website they show an S6 with these mats that appear to have the proper connectors. Thank you very much for the help. I'm sure they will get back with me tomorrow I would imagine.

They used to have a different fastened that used a rubber grommet, but they are using these new ones that snap in place. After reading this I went out to the garage to look at mine. The mats in my A6 use the new grommets. Mine have a similar one as yours, there should be a plastic piece inside the metal ring that snaps over the post. CocoMats.com is a family owned and run business, if something isn't right they will take care of it.

And btw, on their website, the A6 with beige interior in the Audi gallery, that has brown coco mats with neutral spots, is my car!

That's awesome that your car is on there. In fact, I was considering the regular coco mats at first based off of your pictures. Decided to go with the other ones because they match the layered aluminum inlays really well.

Well hopefully they will just be able to send me the other pieces without me having to return them. Do your rear mats have the holes for the fasteners as well. For whatever reason, mine did not. Not sure if it's not something they do or not.

That's what I figured. Did you remove your fasteners that are fixed to the floor so that the mats lay flush then? If so, how do they come out?

When I ordered mine there was an upcharge to have grommets for the rear mats, which I gladly paid.

I purchased coco mats and they have the same grommets as shown in the pic in the op's post. They fit over my posts with no problems and perhaps because the mats are so heavy they stay in place just fine.

A high quality products from a first class company.

I left the factory mats in place in the rear and put the coco mats on top. They lay flat, no problem.

Very true. They are quite heavy, and with the "nibs" on the rubber backing, they aren't going anywhere!

I've taken the securing clips off of the OEM and aftermarket mats and transferred the OEM securing clips to aftermarket mats that had a similar situation to the Furstil mats that you described, specifically on a set of Aries StyleGuard mats I just purchased for my C7. I do not have first hand experience with the Furstil mats so I can't guarantee this will work for you. If you don't want to transfer the clips every season you can purchase new clips relatively inexpensive, here are the numbers:

    Floor Mat Securing Clip
    Top - 3C0864521
    Bottom - 3C0864523

Tip on removing the clips, the OEM's just kind of snap together, the ones on the aftermarket mats screwed together, which I found out after I forced the first one off and cracked it, but I didn't really need it any longer. Good luck.

Awesome. Thank you for the reply. Here in California we only have one season really so doubt I will be changing them in and out. With that being said, I think I will try your method. So to unsnap them, you literally just pulled them apart, or did you use tools? Thanks again.

    Correct, they just snap together.
I use a short flat blade screwdriver to pry them apart. The plastic must be resilient because I've removed them a half dozen times and I haven't broken one yet. I've used a rubber mallet to ensure they're completely snapped together on thicker aftermarket mats, just an appropriate amount of force of course, it's still just plastic.

So unfortunately the stock clips won't work with the mats because they aren't near thick enough. Hopefully after the storm ends, cocomats will get back to me with a better solution. I understand that I can put them on top of the factory mats but if I were going to do that then I wouldn't have paid extra for the connectors at all. I'm sure we will get it figured out.

I had a situation where I doubled up on a set of WeatherTech mats with the factory rubber mats over them because IMO the WeatherTechs are too slippery. The combination of both mats were too thick to use the OEM connectors. To solve the connector problem I removed the bottom side of the OEM connector and used just the top snap part of the connector. I removed the connectors from the aftermarket mat, positioned the holes over the floor posts, and snapped the top part of the OEM connector onto the floor post. This held the mat in with no problem and from the top it looked like it was designed to work this way. I drove that car with the mats secured this way for a couple of years and it worked fine, it never came undone. Here's the original thread with pics:

I only do that with the rear mats, very rare that I ever have passengers back there. I think you will find that using the grommet that came on your mats, placed over the post in the floor, you will be fine. The weight of the mats along with the "nibs" on the rubber bottom, they are going to stay in place. Mine do fine.
