    Billet start button?

    Hi All,
Recently suffering from the famous start button de-lamination where the numbers/letters gradually came apart and recently, perhaps with the super cold temps, the actual surface is lifting slightly. Pretty unsightly.
Instead of shelling out for a new unit, I was wondering if anyone had ever made a new button surface?

I work where I can pretty much prototype/machine anything I can model and got to thinking: maybe I can machine a new billet button piece.

I see they are sold basically as an assembly. At the risk of breaking mine, has anyone ever been able to pry the top surface off an old one? Anyone know how it is held together? Glued etc? Or does anyone have an old/dead one lying around they could donate to science?

    Appreciate any input!

For the time in design, fixturing, manufacturing I am not sure if it would be worth it. Just spend the $60 and get a new one.

I have also heard that this is a known problem and some dealerships will replace without an issue.

I got a damaged one that was attached to a replacement MMI control assembly. The electronic guts had been ripped out of the switch, but I still have the outer housing and the actual button. I already disassembled what was left of it.

PM my your address if you want it. I'll send it your way. The dollar or two it costs me to mail it can just be a donation to science
