You should see inside the pipe too. I wouldn't exactly call it "round."

Er ma gherd HURRY UP!!! Finally APR publicly acknowledges this project and even announces release is close... I have been waiting for this!

What is the diameter on the DP? I am under the impression Milltek's DPs, and exhaust after that, are 2.76" for S6/S7, so if yours is a different diameter I am wondering if it will need a separate tune.

The inlets port match the turbo, and then gradually over several inches or so, begin to neck down to 76mm, or 3 inches. It's then 3 inches through the bottom of the downpipes, and all the way through the mid pipes. These replace the factory resonator pipes, and finally reduce down to 60mm for mating perfectly to the factory catback.

We're using two high quality GESI catalyst, which we've placed in the resonator pipes at the factory resonator location as it leads to cooler underhood temps, lower back pressure, and less turbulence at the turbo outlet. They actually help control unwanted noise too. We've used these catalyst on several applications and each is capable of over 500 HP before they start to show any loss of power. So, unless you're over 1,000 HP, you'll only notice a more pleasing exhaust note and less stinky emissions. They are also high quality, especially in terms of strength, so you don't have to worry about the catalyst bricks falling apart and clogging the downpipes like you would with some of the cheap-o domestic cats. Mated to the factory catback, they sound fantastic. Daily driving is civilized. Wide open throttle is evil.

So a full Milltek 2.76" setup is capable of even more power in theory then, with the right tune?

For the most part, catback upgrades are good for sound and appearance. On most of the current gen Audi / Vw models catbacks upgrades have shown little to no gains, sometimes even a loss. The OEM fights quite a bit to make them efficient on the back end as there aren't any emissions related items in the catback section. They do have to contend with sound, fitment / spatial constraints, etc, so depending on the muffler styles, gains can be had but they are typically unnoticeable. Typically the gains are found by upgrading the downpipe by increasing the diameter of the piping, reducing the restrictions in the catalyst section, smoothing out transitions, especially at the turbo outlet, and getting rid of major kinks so close to the turbo outlet. On the 4.0T, you'll be happy with the gains we're seeing with ours.

Good to know. Makes sense. So the 2.76" Milltek cat is capable of utilizing this tune as well, then? Didn't see a response to that above and I'm curious since many of us here are running the Milltek DPs.

Assuming nothing is overly restrictive, I would assume it will work just fine.

Any idea how will these do with OBD based emissions checks during state inspections with the appropriate software? Will you still be able to pass a cat readiness scan? Thanks.

It is interesting to me that both aftermarket variants I have seen eliminate the cat from the downpipe and instead move it further back to the midpipe. I wonder how much flow is sacrificed by the OEM system having the cats closer to the turbos.

Arin, can you give us a timeline? Next week? Next month? When is soon?!!

Fits all Audi 4.0 TFSI engines, so S6, S7, A8, A8L, RS6, RS7 and S8. That includes both the facelifted and prefacelifted models of each. We haven't tried them on the Bentley models.

If the Catback connects to the factory downpipe using the oem slip on clamp, it should be compatible.

Does my RS7 already with APR need an additional tune up after these are installed?

That's a good question. Any thoughts to spark plug gapping?

I've never had a situation where a tune was required when adding DP's. All that happens is that you're leaving potential on the table....which has been the case for everyone here, including myself, that already has downpipes.

EDIT: That said, I know these DP's will come with a Stage 2 tune, which will be included with the DP's and will take advantage of the increased flow. It'd be foolish not to update the car with it if you're already spending the cash on the DP's.

Arin - safe to assume there'll be a tune upgrade cost for existing APR customers that have different DP's?
