    Coilover decision for '14 S5

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
In the market for a coilover set for my '14 S5 - not looking at going overboard for aggressive performance so I'm limiting the budget to ~$1500 (I just want a decent drop coupled with decent handling) - seems like the choices are H&R Street perf or KW Street comfort. Thoughts? btw - I read not so good stories about the ST coilovers - not sure if that has changed.

The KW comforts are solid. Would have no reservations about running them, but for me they are too soft. I ran H&R street on my A5 for almost 5 years, and they were in service for over 6 years. Not one issue or noise.

I have H&R right meow and one damper went out. It is being replaced by them "under warranty" but I have yet to see my money back for it. It is taking a while.

KW are soft - same thing - damper went out after a couple years.

Luck of the draw with that stuff but I do like the way the H&Rs ride better.

I've got the H&R (through Mops) and no issues with cold or salt. (First winter for them.) I did spray them down with Boeshield T-9 in November to prevent any salt corrosion though.

Sorry for the delay! I never put them in the salt, but they spent the first 1.5 years in NYC under daily drivers, so they saw plenty of it. I never cleaned or coated them either.

I had H&R street coil overs for 50k miles on my B8 S4. They rode well and never gave me an issue - put them through the wringer driving up and down rt1 Boston to Beverly MA every day, up to NH/VT for skiing every weekend. They saw plenty of harsh treatment. I coated them with Boeshield every time I swapped over to my winter wheels in November, but that was probably overkill.

No issues with my H&R coilovers out in Calgary, granted we don't salt our rodes. But I believe they're anodized anyway so shouldn't rust.

But +1 for H&R's great coilovers for the price.

Nom :) Was going to be my next mod on my A5, but never got to it. Would have done the standard PSS10 though.

Depends on what you're looking for. If you want total control and adjustability at the touch of a button the high end KWs seem to be the cat's meow. Some adjustability but not electric then PSS10. A blend of both but not quite either then the b16 ride control, would recommend the IRC module if you go that route. I think someone on the board is selling an IRC module as a matter of fact.

There's a pretty good discussion of each in this thread:
