    Halogen Headlights Questions

Hi I have a 2007 Audi A6 3.2L guys. I am not a mechanic but i can understand some basics of the machine. I am curious if i can upgrade my Halogen headlights to a better one like other A6s i see driving on the road. I am not sure what are my options and what is the difference except that halogen are not as bright as HIDs for sure and i wanted to know i am able to upgrade it. I have this headlight

    I want something like this

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Brand-New-Ge...NWm-TK&vxp=mtr

basically i am asking what different type of headlights are out there from the stock option. I have read up some stuff on the AFS lights and they seem to be lights that have a leveler and will turn with the steering wheel and level the headlights out going of or downhill... I could be wrong. And what is the main difference between these maintenance wise besides just the blubs being more expensive than a halogen bulb?
If someone can be help me out on this noob question i would greatly appreciate it. I just would like to upgrade the halogen headlights and the fog lights if it is possible.

There are 3 types of headlights out there; Halogen, NonAFS Xenon, and AFS Xenon. You logical step would be to go to non AFS Xenon. The change can be done with new headlights (obviously), bulbs, ballasts, etc. It will also require a new control module. So my question to you is how much are you willing to spend to add xenon headlights? I too have halogen headlights and made a change in bulbs to get the whiter beam similar to xenon. Recently, I have started collecting all parts necessary to switch to non AFS Xenon with the LED strip (MY09-11).

Thanks Sin that is what i thought about the variations as well. My step dad's 2005 Lexus RX330 SUV has those head lights i noticed it when i turned the steering wheel and the lights would move while the car stood still and i noticed the tend to shine at a lower angle going up hill and vice versa going down hill. Those are pretty cool and amazing but i can definitely live without that assuming they a bit more in price than the NonAFS Xenon and in my research people having AFS errors due to wires getting pinched and other troubles.
I had a 94 Honda 2 door coupe for my first car back in 2009 and someone i knew simply put a ballast and some new bulbs in the same headlights housing it was fairly cheap can't remember how much but reasonable enough to not remember. I don't understand what he did there and i am not sure if it is smart to do that to my C6 because i don't want any cheap stuff in there that could later fail on me and give me unnecessary error codes. But i am interested in that route if it is much cheaper than what you mentioned the new headlights housing, bulbs, those ballasts, and a new control module sounds pretty expensive. I don't want to spend a fortune but i am trying to go for the best stock look. I wouldn't know where to start if i were to buy the Xenon headlights. I am assuming the ballast is a separate buy and the control module. What parts have you been collecting to convert your car from halogen to Xenon. Also what bulbs did you replace the halogen bulbs with to get the similar bright light. I wouldn't care to put to convert the original headlights to HID but then again i don't know which one is better i rather not take the cheap route if it isn't reliable. I read so many threads on this and i am so confused because i don't understand some of the language used lol. but apparently in Europe they are illegal if not factory equipped and you need jet washers too apparently. I wan't to spend over $250-$1K.

I am trying to have this look https://youtu.be/cDXq1s_ZXKE?t=1m31s but i am stuck with that for the time being

i have also found these things http://www.xenonhids.com/hid-kits/20...tro-39681.html

extremely confusing but none the less still figuring it out :)

The rep said these are led and they have HIDs available too but idk what do you guys think.

It sounds like your friend added HID bulbs to the existing headlight housings of your Honda. You can do that to your car but you're not changing out the headlight you're only changing out the bulbs and you need a ballast on each side as well as potentially igniters. In my opinion not an elegant solution.
AFS is definitely a cool feature as long as it's installed as OEM equipment. However trying to retrofit a car that does not already have it is a major pain in that you have to replace headlights sensors rearview mirror etc.
Ultimately, it is up to you as to what you were looking to do. Are you looking for looks or functionality, brighter light etc.? You could probably switch to OEM headlights xenon non-AFS for around $1000. You would just need to do some searching and find headlights that are complete units to include bulb and ballast then you would need to obtain the module to make them work.
As for me, I switched out the halogen bulbs with Sylvania ZXE superbright halogens in both the headlights and the fogs. These give off a whiter light and gets rid of the yellow appearance. They also throw light out further than the standard halogen bulbs.
I have collected new headlight housings, bulbs and ballasts to swap out to xenon, just haven't gotten around to doing it completely yet. Still have to purchase the module.

All right that is exactly what i wanted to do i thought the same if the car didn't come with the AFS feature just leave it be because it would be a PITA to do all that for anyone. I will go ahead to some extensive research on the threads and find the best oem xenon headlights with the non AFS feature. I really like the lens in the headlight the way it's designed looks like a cool camera lens. If you could help point the the correct list of parts the i would be grateful although i will be doing my research as well but i don't want to screw up get the wrong parts i will verify it with the community before i go about getting anything.
I already found a pair that would fit and i know these don't have the ballasts bulbs and the control module. All thanks to the information you provided.

I am assuming the list you said above with the headlight housing bulbs and ballast including the control module is all i will be needing. I would definitely shy away from non oem stuff when it comes to things like this i recently bought a pair of stock rear tail lights because the old ones were cracked. Also what do you suggest for the halogen fog lights? I would like them to match the cars headlights once i do swap them do you have any plans for that on your vehicle? Thanks for sharing all this information so far i have found out that XENON is that the same is HIDs they are two completely different things. On a completely different side note it's like -10F lately in mornings and the high is been in 10F in Pittsburgh do you recommend putting this in the windshield washer fluid or will it mess up the sensor..i read somewhere along the web that someone had put in Rain X in theirs and the sensor went kaput!.

I, too have heard that the Rain-X messes with the sensor. I have not read anything about a de-icer causing issues but that does not mean it wont happen. I think you would be ok to run it for a short time to get you through the cold winter, but once it starts warming up, get it all out and flush the tank to prevent any sensor issues..
