Hello guys, finally have figured out what this odd my loud ticking noise was coming from my car . Turns out it's the purge valve but I'm sure if it needs replacing. No engine codes but it's rather annoying at idle sometimes. Anyone else expirence this ?

can you post a quick vid of the ticking noise youre getting? i think i have some as well when idle then goes away as soon as you hit the gas pedal.

I think I have this too.. It's a ticking that's not consistent with the engine, and when I blip the throttle it goes away too. I wouldn't call it loud, but definitely noticeable.

Also this sound icomes and goes, sometimes when the engine is full temp and hot it will go away. but perhapes it a sign the valve is about to go. When my PCV was failing I didnt get a code until I had weird symptoms for a week along with noises.

My allroad has made this ticking noise on and off since day 1. I have 92,000 miles on it and has the newest PCV revision. It doesn't have anything to do with the PCV and is totally normal. Just about every car with a high pressure direct injection set up will make this noise now and then. It's very common on the 2.0T TFSI engines and is not a sign that anything is wrong

I'm running a catch can with no PCV and I still have that noise. It's always been there.

The easiest way to hear the purge valve is on a cold start. When the coolant temp is below a certain threshold the ECU is in cold loop mode and running off of baseline maps. The O2 sensor isn't in play yet. So fueling is based off of only MAF and boost pressure sensor. The purge solenoid would cause an overich condition that the ECU wouldn't be able to monitor yet. Once in warm mode the O2 can adjust fueling and the purge valve is cycled to remove gas vapor from the evap canister and pulsed so it doesn't draw too much vacuum. This is when you will hear it start (and feel if you touch it) clicking.
