My dilemma at this point is a cam shaft plug, I hope...

So the day before yesterday it was about 6 degrees outside and I was driving on my way to watch the football games with some friends when I smell some burning oil.
Thinking nothing of it soon enough smoke was billowing through my vents and polluting everyone around me.

Ok no big deal, don't panic just pullover when you can, so I did about a quarter mile down the road.

I popped the hood and let the smoke clear, at the same time I check under the car and see oil pooling on the floor.
Greeeeaaaat!!!!!! I think one of the seals or gaskets I just replaced must not have been seated properly or it failed.

Sooooo not having any tools but my Leatherman and with my balls slowly shriveling up inside my stomach I quickly check the oil and determine it safe enough to drive home(about 1 mile away).

When I get home I grabbed some tools and removed the coolant tank and find this....

A bit of oil allover the driver side.

Are you starting to see my issue?

    Here's a bit of a better view...

Finally you get to see the whole issue!

So what do you guys think, I lost about half a quart from this, do you think it is my only issue?
What would have caused this to pop out? My theory is the frigid cold contracted the material and the pressure caused it to pop out.
Could anyone suggest advice to ensure this does not happen again?

    Thanks for looking and reading.

The block is far from cold. Maybe a bad seal, maybe not pushed in all the way. I've never heard of it happening before so I say just put a new one in (and from a better supplier than Blau, they've had some bad stuff in the past. Elring is OEM supplier and highly recommended) and I bet the issue doesn't happen again.

I had a Victor Reinz cam plug leak badly two days after putting it in. When I went to change it, it literally fell out. There is an updated OEM Cam Plug with a lip on it. Have it in my hand and the part number I am seeing is: 078 103 113F

I just did a search for this part but found nothing definitive. Do you have the product name?
I ordered a VR replacement from eBay on Sunday, hopefully that one stays put, if not ill have to order something better, maybe what you suggested.

No problem, popped this one in dry and it actually was firm going in and no leaks since.

I know there are oe alternatives. But most dealerships give huge discounts on parts to forum users. I tend to buy most parts as OE now as the price is so close to aftermarket prices.

But yea, i have never seen that before either. Weird.

Do you have pressure building inside the block? After you get the new plug installed run the engine and pull the dipstick out a little and see if you are getting alot of air coming out.

might be time to get the updated oil cap and check your spider hose, too much pressure is building up

You have a PCV issue for sure. There is no way these should be popping out. Too much pressure in the crankcase that is not being vented.
