    elevated rpms during shift

The engine rpm's remain elevated during shift they slowly decrease towards idle but don't get to idle during a normal shift. This car was converted from auto to 5 spd manual I installed a clutch switch and installed a new wire to the ecu. I think it helped some but the engine rpm's don't decrease toward idle the way I think it should. I would like to hear any ones thoughts as to why the rpm's are slow to return to idle. thanks in advance

Your upper clutch pedal switch is out of adjustment.

Thanks old guy I'll take a look at the clutch switch because all I did was transfer it from one clutch pedal to another never thought about checking to see needed any adjustment.

I'm still having problems with the engine not returning to idle when the clutch is disengaged. After about 2 seconds the engine rpms start to return to idle. I checked my clutch switch it is pushed all the way in with the pedal out and it is not touching the pedal with the pedal pushed half way in so I think that it is adjusted properly. The cruise control functions properly so I think that the wiring that I installed to the ecu and clutch switch was done correctly. Some people have suggested that there is a vacuum leak after the maf adding unmetered air. I checked for leaks with propane but could not find any, I have cleaned the throttle body, and performed a throttle body adaptation. The engine runs great and there are no other problems I would really like to solve this last problem.

I had a similar problem with my upper clutch pedal switch. I adjusted it visually but still had a problem with it. I ended up crawling up under the dash and using my multi-meter to confirm that it was opening/closing at the proper pedal position. I had to tweak it several times before I got it to operate properly. It was a real pain in the ass unless you are a contortionist but it cured my problem.

Thank you old guy I went out and was lying there looking up at the clutch switch trying to figure out how to adjust it. Then I remembered that I installed one on a 1999 A 4 and that the plunger is self adjusting I pushed the pedal in pulled the plunger out, (it kind of ratchets out). When the pedal is returned to the out position the plunger is set to the proper distance and no more rev hang, thank you again for your help.
