Link to Common Turbo Upgrades? (Increase Boost Level)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello,

I recently bought a 99 Audi a4 1.8T quattro 5 speed with a blown engine. I've installed a replacement engine in the car with the intent to resell the car but I've realized how much I enjoy driving it.

That said, I have some general newb questions but I haven't found a specific thread that answers all of my questions. It appears the wiki is down as well

I'd like to get the most reliably safe amount of power from the stock turbo and components. This will be a daily in the winter. It won't be driven much during warmer weather. I want to keep it relatively cost effective. I'd like to increase the boost to the maximum amount the stock turbo and engine can reliably handle. Fyi turbo is in good shape (no shaft play) as well as the engine. Thoughts are a cheap manual boost controller to increase psi, suggestions? I know the ecu will need to be tuned (chipped or reflashed) to adjust fuel and timing to compensate for the additional boost. Which companies offer this and how much do they charge ballpark??

Again I'd like to keep it very simple. Stock exhaust, stock turbo piping, stock intercooler. Maybe add an aftermarket blow off valve (diverter valve) and a boost gauge. Any suggestions would be helpful.

    Thanks

As GOODBYNAAIR has suggested, the search tool is your best friend. You will have to do some digging through as the most popular threads with 900+ pages always come to the top.

The FAQ in the Tech/DIY section is FULL of great info.

As well, there are a ton of build threads on here which are worth a read. A lot of them will cover your questions before you ask them.

With that said, my suggestion to you is to make sure all the maintenance is up to date on your car. These things can add up quickly and eat away your mod budget. But the proper maintenance will keep that car that enjoyable to drive.

As for tuning, my car came with a tune. But if i didn't I would get a custom tune from a member on here named kOmpressed. From what I understand, bang for buck, he's the guy.

And welcome to AZ. And congrats on the B5. We would like to see Pics.

What I'd suggest is, stage 2 tune, exhaust 2.5. hfc or test pipe, n710 diverter valve or aftermarket forge ect. And a boost gauge. When clutch goes upgrade to a stage 1 or 2.
You will probably want to replace the snub mount and the jhm shifter trio is a great feel upgrade. And a rear sway bar with decent coilovers.

My stock clutch didn't like kompresd stage 2 tune at 22 psi. 4th and 5th were useless under power. It did have 150k on it.

the first thing you should do is pay no attention to "stage"
on a platform that is almost 20 years old...it can really mean anything right now.

get a tune, new diverter valve and a test pipe/HFC (you can leave stock resonator/muffler)
This is the easiest/cheapest way to get some more power on stock components.

K0mpressed is one fella here that does it, and I've heard a lot of great recommendations for him.

Daz Dillenger is another person who does custom tunes for a very reasonable price, and easily comes just as highly recommended.

You can send a PM to k0mpressed here on audizine, and I found Daz Dillenger's Facebook page very easily... Then you can send a message to him there.
