    Cooling System Part Number Request

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Good morning Audizine,

This topic is a request for a part number for a cooling system part.

On my 04 A4 B6 1.8T Quattro, I have a part that is leaking, and I would like to get a replacement, just in case in the event, that once I remove it, and it is cracked, that I will have a replacement.

The part is located on the drivers side front of the engine, is plastic, and appears to be attached to the block via 2 bolts.

If anyone could supply me with the part number, and if possible the name of the part, so that I may get one ordered, I would be greatly appreciative.

    Thank You Audizine

Thermostat housing part # 06B121111K. Also replace the j-plug if you are replacing the thermostat housing, part # 06B103033A

Thank you very much crazyquik, much appreciated. I do have 2 questions now. Does the t-stat housing have a new t-stat? Is the J-Plug near the t-stat housing?

I'd recommend this nice kit that ECS put together. Has everything you need, including the oft forgot hard-pipe o-ring.

That kit includes a Vemo (non-OE) thermostat, so YMMV on whether it'll start leaking within a year or not. Stick with OE/Behr/Mahle when it comes to the thermostat on these cars...

Ya it's a hit or miss with these thermostats. I agree for the extra money OEM is the best option by far and will likely last a good 60k miles or more. Some have had good luck with the aftermarket brands and alot have also failed soon after install.

Yes the thermostat housing is the whole assembly which includes the thermostat which is part of the assembly. The j-plug is right next to the thermostat. It is held on by 1 13mm bolt. They usually crack and cause a leak. If when you remove it you see that it is in pieces make sure to inspect you water pump as well to see if the piece(s) that broke off hit the pump and damaged it. Also you will need the o-ring for the water pipe. Part # WHT006407. If you get a kit from ECS like walky suggested it comes with the o-ring and j plug already.

ECS's kit used to include the Behr stat, but they must have switched to the Vemo unit at some point. Anyway, they do have a kit made up with the OEM t-stat as well:

I just looked @ the car this morning and compared what that part looks like, and it dosn't look the same as the part above. It does not have the part that has the hole next to the bolt hole, or the outlet that looks on that part to connect with a hose clamp. I also could not locate that J-Plug. All it has is the part that mounts to the block, the sensor, and the outlet that connects to the cooling hose via the hose sliding on and the clip to hold it in place, that is right next to the sensor. Any Ideas?

The part above is there. It is on every b6 1.8t. It is hard to get a good look without removing some things. When you change it you will need to remove the accessory belt from the alternator, unbolt and remove the alternator (don't forget to disconnect battery), remove intake tube going from throttle body to intercooler, unbolt and remove throttle body, unbolt 13mm bolt that holds water pipe to throttle body. After you remove all of that you will be able to get a good look at it and do the repair as needed.

This is what the thermostat looks like installed on our cars. It's under the intake manifold.

The coolant flange is located on the rear of the engine right in front of the firewall. This is what it looks like back there.

Anyone know the part number for just the o-ring that connects the metal coolant tube to the thermostat housing?
