    2011 Thermostat Failure

I finally hit the thermostat roulette. At 59,500~ miles, my coolant warning went off today while driving up I-280. I looked down and noticed that my temp gauge was at max. I pulled over, turned off the car and got it towed to the dealer (DCH Millburn). I thought I noticed the fans were on after I turned off the car last night, but was hoping it was nothing.

I'm still under my CPO warranty and am hoping that it will be covered. Besides having them check the thermostat and my sport diff (already had the seals replaced once), is there anything else I should have them check while they are replacing the thermostat? Motor mounts and pulleys -- am I missing anything else?

Also, I was not one of the cars under the TSB for the fuel rail recall. I tried to get them to replace the thermostat then, bc I did hear the fan working full speed after I turned off the car a few times roughly 6 months ago, but they wouldn't. Will keep you all updated on how it goes.

    Thanks guys!

They won't replace anything unless it's busted. I had the same issue with the thermostat, I noticed that the fan was running high and dropped by the dealer. They took it out for a short test drive, found no problems and gave the car back to me. I argued with them that there is a problem go drive it longer and you'll see. The fan shouldn't be running at max if all I'm doing is city driving during a cool summer day. They declined. It wasn't until I brought the car back on a flatbed then they did something. Cripes, what a waste of time and money which is a real annoyance.

Anyways I had my car in the other day to get the gauge cluster replaced (flickering km/h, covered under CPO). I asked the same question - can they check the car bumper-to-bumper. They could, it would be the same checklist they perform to qualify a car for CPO, but I would have to pay for it. i can't remember how much it costs but I said don't bother. They won't fix anything until it's broken. Stuff that is starting to act up but it's not broken yet, the dealer is pushing back on this stuff now ever since the TDI issue.

Yes, blower needs to come off to get at the PCV. Maybe worth it if the cost is minimal (part and labour being out-of-pocket, but most of the labour would be performed by the thermostat being replaced).
