    S-line springs with upgraded shocks

It's about time to change my shocks and I was searching to see if anyone has tried to run stock S-line springs (1BV) with Bilstein shocks. Anyone try it?

Thinking of doing a Bilstein B12 kit, but found the ride height would be the same (stock - 30mm) while the dampers would probably be a good upgrade. The added benefit is that OEM springs are cheap and would not need to be approved or registered with the vehicle - which at least in my country is somewhat of a benefit.

So - anyone run S-line springs and Bilstein or some other performance shocks?

The ride would not be the same. It's a lot lower.

4ringnut, why would an s-line (1BV) spring on a Bilstein damper be lower than the B12 (30-40mm according to source)? Does the shock have a different perch height?

I meant the b12 would be lower than the s line spring.

Sorry for the confusion. I have the b12 kit. It's way lower than they claim.

No worries :) I had the same experience, but it turned you there is actually two versions of B12 - the prokit (eibach 30mm) and sportline (H&R 50mm). My B7 was really low but rode well, so I think matching the shock with a friendlier spring would be great.

The S-line/Sport suspension is 20mm lower than the standard setup, which is .75 inches. The Eibach springs are a 1.4 inches and those Bilstein shocks match the Eibach height. I ran Eibach springs (with the stock shocks) on my B8 and I have the sport suspension currently; the Eibachs had a much stiffer ride and the height was functional for daily use but not as easy as the sport suspension when it came to speed bumps and parking lot entrances. I did like the look of the Eibachs; aesthetically the height was great. Pictures of both setups, with 18 inch wheels and 245/40 tires, are below:

That's true in the US, but not in Europe. According to the OP's info box he(she?) is in Norway. In Europe as I understand it, the Sport and S-Line suspensions are not the same. The Sport suspension has a 20 mm drop (same as in the US) but the S-Line suspension has a 30 mm drop (1.2") which is much closer to aftermarket lowering springs like Eibach and H&R OE Sports.

Interesting. I didn't know that but I do know the US regs regarding ride height are more conservative than Europe so that makes sense. That would put S-line roughly equal to S4 height, which also makes sense.
