Advice for tune, dp, exhaust for *new* TTRS

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey all, picked up a 2013 TTRS between Christmas and New Years. I've always modded my cars but am a little hesitant as this one is just so good from the factory. BUT I know it can get even better, and I can't resist for long. A tune will happen but from who? I've heard APR is the most aggressive and I'm not looking for that. Thinking 034 or UM but it looks like the latter loses power vs stock in the lower rpms? Also want to make the sport exhaust louder. Did the flapper mod but wondering about down pipe or just cat back and from who? I like APR over AWE. Looking for opinions/reviews or better ideas. Thanx ahead of time!

Don't get the APR tune. It is terrible for the TTRS. Most owners that have it, ended up switched to UM or now some have switched to 034. UM doesn't lose power anywhere in the RPM band compared to stock. I have UM stage 2 on my car and I love it. The tune drives so much better than stock. It idles smoother, it is easier to control boost/power compared to stock, the rev hang when you let off the throttle is gone. They offer adjustable boost, octane and No-Lift Shifting, all adjusted through Vagcom. They have launch control which is set using the throttle and brake pedals.

I have the 034 downpipe, midpipes and CF intake on my car and I love the performance and sound. The DP and midpipes with OEM Sport exhaust and flapper mod is perfect. Since you are in Florida, you should look at doing an Intercooler as well. APR makes the best FMIC out there but it is the most expensive. I have a CTS FMIC and it works just fine for me. Wagner also makes two good FMICs for the car, the Evo 2 and Evo 3.

There is a lot more going on Forum wise on QW or Fourtitude for the TTRS.

Yo! You da man...this is just the kinda info I'm looking for. Thanx so much! I've talked with another local owner that said the same about APR tune as he has it. On the UnitedMotorsport page they link to this graph that looks to have power/torque loss down low vs stock.

I've heard both UM and 034 are markedly better overall and not as overly aggressive as APR. I'm looking to get a bit more power and sound is all. I also need to pick up a vagcom I guess! I was thinking 034 tune and downpipe, maybe the decatted pipes...is that what you mean by mid pipes? Can you do a downpipe with no tune? I was also debating the full turboback from APR. 034s intake looks great but I can't justify the price for something that'll rarely be seen...well at least not while I've got other mods in mind.

I have shopped the FMICs and like APRs and have read about the others as well. I'm sure I'll get around to that too. I don't plan on tracking it, just going to be my spirited daily driver! Thanx for taking the time to help! Look up The TTRS Club I started on Facebook too!

So what's with the dyno plot above? Am I reading that wrong or does it show less than stock early on? I might be interested in your turboback from APR...although they've got a great sale price on the cat back right now. Why selling?

If both runs were started at different RPMs, one could show less TQ down low because of less load/boost.

And realistically, are you ever going to floor it at 2k rpm unless you are in 1st gear? The car makes a ton of TQ below 2k RPM and my car has no problem pulling itself along at 1600rpm in 4th gear. It starts spooling right away and takes off.

The car will going stage 3 very shortly...so will not be needing the APR down pipe so wanting to see if I can keep the whole system intact...will probaly go with a custom system

Thanx for the info fellas. I hear good things about UM...not too much about 034 yet. Was going to use 034 cause I was thinking about using there dp and mid pipes...figured I'd stick with the same company if I could...
