    Oil Filter Housing Leak?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Recently just sprung a leak on the driver side of the engine block. Is it a common thing that the gaskets start to let go on the oil filter housing? Also, what parts (gaskets) would be needed to perform this service?

Its common ppl tend to overtighten the filter housing and crack it. Its cheap plastic. Either you cracked it, stripped a thread, and or possibly the gasket isnt seated properly.

Personally, I went with an aluminum oil filter housing after a constant battle with overtightening my plastic one and leaking.

Go to ECS. Theyll have part numbers and housings

You have misunderstood me. I meant the whole assembly not only the part the oil filter goes into.

It's pretty common for those gaskets go. You need 2 gaskets one for oil cooler and 1 for oil filter housing adapter.

I see. When you kept talking about oil filter "housings", one might assume you meant the housing.

Yes it's common as the car gets older for these gaskets to develop leaks. It's maybe an hour or two worth of work to change them out and they aren't expensive. No big deal.

Its a nasty job. Be sure to drain coolant and oil first and beware of coolant getting into oil pan when removing the filter housing.

Small leak under driver side leaking off belly pan. My oil was changed 1000 miles ago. Does this seem like a cracked oil filter housing cover? Or is that short sighted?

Usually oil filter housing causes leaks that run down the lock. You can see the leaks around the cooler.
As others have mentioned get the housing not the gaskets as the housing warps.
Its not a bad job just finicky. Although I would not want to do it with an ailing back. Or in winter.

Thanks. Looks like ECS only offers the cover/cap/billett to the oil filter housing.

If I have this whole housing replaced https://www.europaparts.com/oil-filt...6e115405k.html .

Is that a common leak around the 3.0 engines? Or is there another common part that fails on the driverside??

Sorry I didn't follow the leak "down the lock vs. cooler". Idk if my photo was helpful in that way.
