Time for original clutch replacement, as ever I'm taking the opportunity to upgrade in any way I can. Wanting to shave weight and minimize power leaching by going with a lightweight flywheel and Fidanza alu is on top of my list. I want to hear owner experiences and also what clutch you've paired with it.

Also CONSIDERING solid trans and engine mounts at the same time. I doubt anyone here has those, on their A6 at least, but in the off chance you do I'd love to hear your experiences with those as well.

Me too. Truth is I've talked this over with several people lately since I have a new Rs4 kit and Fidanza flywheel sitting here.
So far the general consensus I get is: For a daily driver the LWFW is a take-it or leave-it situation. BUT the people who have done it say if you ARE changing the flywheel might as spend the money on the single mass. The SMFW doesn't add power, doesn't 'help' driveability or economy~ just changes the personality of the clutch and engine. Downshifting frequently requires fast shifts or blipping the throttle.
I do not think I would do solid mounts AND a single mass flywheel. Seems like that would be pretty harsh gear changes.
I don't know..Since my DMFW only has 5k miles on it..I'll probably sell the Fidanza and leave it.

I'll scoop that Fidanza from you if you do sell it.

You're probably right about the solid mounts. Thought process is that I really love my stage II+ power right now especially the reliability and $$$ I have for other stuff for the car. The more power I can gain back from drivetrain loss the better. I've also read that firmer (and also not old OEM) mounts for trans and rear diff helps simmer down the chatter and noise with SMFW.

I like the idea of RS 4 clutch/pp but with the launch control it's made launching occasionally really fun. Might go stronger/non organic.

Solid mounts are a no go unless you are tracking the car. You might not mind for a few days, but i guarantee if you go full blown solid mounts, your cabin noise or whatever that term is will increase. If you really dont mind than I see why you want them, but if i were you id go stern or 034 track density mounts. I have street density mounts on the b5 and am happy with the results. Track density would be even stiffer.

What would really help me is if I knew WHAT noises were louder. Will probably go track density. My allroad is slowly becoming a streetable race car.

I think when I swap in my lower mileage motor and Trans into another allroad I would be inclined to go with the street density mounts and a TTV single mass steel flywheel. I believe their are a couple guys running them. Not sure on what clutch yet but it will need to be able to hold stage 3 power.

Id say just watch a video of a b5 s4 with solid mounts and that will probably more or less sum it up. you are not gutting interior i assume so that should muffle some noise but you'll still feel the vibrations i guess? I love the idea but dont know if id install solid mounts on my daily.

Yeah, full interior still but I'll have some recaro sportsters going in before summer and was considering a half cage like the MTM clubsport but I do want to retain my rear seats. Could be doable but it's obviously dangerous for passengers without helmets and for other various reasons that's at least on the back burner.

Good idea on the videos, going to go check some out now.

Geoff, what turbos are you going with?

For Avant guys, I'm starting my mold for a production version of my B8/C7 RS inspired hatch spoiler which will be made out of 2x2 twill carbon for anyone else going for a more hard-core look and feel for their C5.

Probably K04 Hybrids, even considering the cast FTG ones, had a really good discussion with Stuklr about them when we were making some changes to my tune. He seems happy and I will probably go with a very similar build. Definitely want to go with upgraded intercooler's but I'm not interested in water/meth injection.

Considering WMI for my stage 2. But probably wouldn't use it after I eventually go K04 in some form. Probably like you I just don't want to build my block.

What intercoolers, SRM? Will likely do intercoolers before actual stage 3.

Yes to SRM. Wish I had time for a build thread ;( pretty sure I had 65 hrs last week alone wrenching on our fleet of trailers. Also today I'm dealing with a leaking Arnott on the wife's allroad. Airbag is less than a year old, grr!

Ah man, that's HECTIC. Hope things settle down for you soon. Did I ever give this pic of you at camp to you? Thought it was cool how it's literally a road in the sky.

No you did not, if you could I would love it if you could email it to me. I heard rugged culture can make posters and that is one I would love to have!

Many on the B5 side are running the TTV billet steel flywheel. Weighs 15lbs. It has gotten a ton of great reviews from the S4 guys as of late and it's my understanding that it will chatter less than an aluminum one, too. It's also only ~$500 shipped from TTV UK which seems to be a great deal for steel. Not on the computer but you should be able to find many references in the S4 section.

Also, this AMD clutch kit is a more recent development but has gotten a LOT of praise as of late. Many S4s running it, and it's what I would likely buy if I had to upgrade. Most stage 3 guys are going with the 3 or 3+

Thanks for the info on the clutch. I have read so many threads and posts about clutches that my head is spinning.

I've got a fidanza lwfw and 034 street density engine and transmission mounts along with an apokol rear diff mount (track density) and an 034 snub and I love it. I used to drive this car from NYC to Charlotte every two weeks with this set up and its not too harsh or buzzy. The flywheel is nice for quicker rev matching and generally it feels like it revs better. I'm not sure about downfalls as I've been driving it for a year like this and don't really remember the old one being "better" only " insulated" as far as noise goes... I'm replacing an FX300 disk and getting my pressure plate resurfaced by ClutchMasters as we speak. I'm personally going with an FX400 this time. The 300 lasted 25 or 30k before it started to slip all while driving " spirited".

This is great info guys. I really really hate how long it takes the 2.7T to rev up and down in neutral. Really looking forward to speeding that up.

I'm liking Fidanza FW and spending that bit of money saved for a real proper stage 3/3+ clutch because I will be launching from time to time. That AMD clutch you posted, Hayden, looks to be the best value I've seen.

I'll email it to you Geoff along with the other pics I have of you.
