Anyone got a link to a simple, clean install of city lights in stock B6 headlights?

I am more and more curious as to how it would look.

    Thanks.

Hmm, I was sort of planning to research the possibility of adding a switchback LED to the turn signal location, so it can be used as a DRL while still being an amber turn signal when needed and disconnect the fog lights from being DRLs.

You could probably use the same idea of a switchback LED for city light with some rewiring.

Or you could just VAG code it to US to lose you fogs as DRL's.

I like my fog DRLs :)

City light in the headlights would be nice....I'll find a PIC when I get home.

My only gripe with Fogs for DRL's (Cent eletronics set to Canada) is that the fogs come on with the ignition and there is no way to turn them off.

SUPER cold starts, the battery does not need 2X fog lights on and sucking juice.

My old B4 had its fogs set to DRLs and I had a button on the dash to toggle the fogs on and off.

I wonder if a button could be made for our B6's to turn the fogs on/off with the light switch set to OFF or Marker/city lights.

In Canada setting the fogs turn on as soon as the key turns forward to the ACC position. They also stay on during start (IIRC)

I am coded for Canada settings and I just checked this on my way to work. Fogs come on when the key is switched on, but they go off when the starter is cranking. The amber side markers stay on though, which likely means the rear parking lights stay on too.

One way to turn them off is to switch on your headlights. If the current draw for 2 fog lights is giving you problems during cold starts, I think a new battery is likely in order anyway.

City lights in e-codes are small 5 watt lamps placed in the High beam reflector, and the parking light/turn signal lamp is only a turn signal. When the parking lights are turned ON the city light is ON instead of the corner parking light.

"City Lights" are only relevant with e-codes, halogen and xenon. The stock NA halogen and xenon headlights are not fitted with city lights and none of the exterior lights function like city lights,

The factory optional in Europe gasoline or diesel fueled auxiliary heater that is remote controlled, and preheats the engine and cabin interior, before starting the engine and driving the car. With the engine preheated, starting the car requires a lot less battery reserve in cold climates, as well as having the cabin nice and toasty before getting into the car.

It would be easy to add a relay in the fog light power supply wires under the dash, controlled by a manual switch to turn the fogs ON/OFF anytime.

Using suitable universal lamp sockets, 5 watt city light lamps can be installed in the same location in the high beam reflectors as the e-codes have. The added city lights can be powered by a parallel connection with the existing parking light power supply circuit, or with a relay and manual switch for independent operation. This would look the same as e-code city lights, except the parking light would be ON as well, unless the city lights were powered by a relay and manual switch for independent operation.* It is also possible to power the added city lights directly from the CECM, that would allow the lamp diagnostics to work with the new city lights.

*If you don't want the amber parking light on when the city lights are illuminated, remove the power supply wire to the amber parking light lamp and leave only the turn signal connected. The parking light power supply circuit will still be connected to and power the city light instead.

    Not going to bother.

Now If I can work out a relay and switch to turn off my fog lights when in Canada mode (fogs as DRL and turn on with iggy) then I will be happy.

I know I will get a bulb out warning as soon as I turn them off, but im all good with that :)

I know I will get a bulb out warning as soon as I turn them off, but im all good with that :)
This, let's you set the car to ROW (rest of world) instead of Canadian, which allows you to run fogs, main, and high beams, really nice on the dark twisty roads by me.

I attempted the procedure in the above link.

    No joy.

This is the end state I am looking for...

Light switch off = No lights (like USA setting)
    Light switch Auto = Auto
Light switch to parking/city lights = city/parking lights on (like USA setting)
Light switch to parking/city lights & pulled out = Fogs on with parking/city lights
Light switch to on = low beams on.
Light switch to on and pulled out = low beams and fogs on.

    Any more ideas??

I am a bit confused here.

I came across some DIY's that said to cut the wire in pin# 2 and connect the cut (connector) side to wire pin #1 , then cap off the dangling wire (#2) in the dash.

Where I am confused is.... do I not essentially do this when I tape off pin #2 and jumper pin #2 to pin#1 ???

Am I missing something here? Doing something wrong?? Has anyone successfully done this on a B6??

As stated above, I would like my end state to be..

The CECM does not allow for the parking lights with only the fog lights ON. Since the CECM controls all exterior lighting, the coding and adaptation channel values determine the lighting options that can be selected. Coding the CECM to US provides everything you want except only the parking lights with the fog lights ON.

    Understood and agreed.

However, my research shows that the "snipping and jumping" a wire allows for fogs on in the parking light position when switch is pulled out.

I just want to confirm someone has done this with success here before I start chopping up my wire harness ;)

Here is a link to procedure I am talking about..

Here is a pinout foe the headlight switch I found...

See the link I posted a few postings back, I did that years ago and have been working fine just like you want. I didn't cut any wires, just taped over that contract and wound some wire around the two contacts.

Did you recode your car to ROW?
