tewnick, I have had an 09 with the 4.2 for exactly 18 months and it has been nothing but problems from the start. It had about 50K miles on it when purchased and has about 62K miles now and I just discovered ANOTHER thing that needs to be fixed last time I drove it (it's the wife's vehicle).
Since purchasing it we've replaced all Side Assist modules & sensors, all Lane Change Assist modules & sensors, the ECM, pano-sunroof frame, all sunroof drain lines, rear sunroof shade, complete driver side inner mirror parts (glass, wiring, motor, switch...basically everything but the housing), AC blower motor, high pressure switch,ECM relay & ECM, pneumatic struts on rear hatch....honestly there is more that I simply can't remember right now. OH YEAH, we replaced the front windshield after owning it for about a year and by suggestion of the dealer. It was in for other repairs and after a heavy rain, they found water on the front pass side floor. They said it was because of faulty sealant around the front windshield, so we replaced it. Well, we continue to randomly experience a soaking wet front pass floorboard even after the $1K+ windshield replacement. And this is also waaaay after the blower motor replacement & sunroof drains, so I would think they are unrelated). And it doesn't happen after every single rain (regardless of severity), just randomly after it's been raining. We've had issues with the brakes since purchasing after several "repairs". The driver side mirror motor is going out again. There were numerous issues with the MMI at first, then after paying for it to be fully wiped/updated, it lost key features & changed the overall sound of the system. And the list goes on and on and on...
tl;dr
I absolutely LOVE my Q7. It's beautiful. It's loaded with more options and amenities than I could imagine. It's a beast and I love the sound of the exhaust. It really hauls, both figuratively and literally. But if I had to do it all over again, I would opt for something else, anything else...OK well maybe not ANYTHING else. But it has definitely been a non-stop headache since it was purchased. Other than my A4 (which hasn't been NEARLY as troublesome as my Q7), I don't have any past experience with Audi's, so maybe it's just me/my Q7...or maybe the PO abused the hell out of it and didn't maintain it properly, who knows.
Sorry for the long post, but hopefully it helps you out if you haven't already pulled the trigger on the Craigslist ad.
