Can a marginal battery cause this? (DTCs 008504, 01314)

Hey guys, so I think my battery is on the way out, and it may be taking some DTC's down with it. I started her up this morning, temp: 37* F, moderate rain/snow mix, and the ESP and EPC lights stayed on. First minute of driving had zero brake power, and was in limp mode. Got to work and plugged in VAGCom, got the following codes:

The car is mostly used for short trips at the moment (horrible for everything, i know...) but I take weekly longer highway trips to NH or BOS. The thing that immediately leads me to a battery being the culprit is the voltage freeze frame: 8.8 volts!

I reset all codes, turned the car off and on again, and the code reappeared. Reset again while keeping the car running and went for a drive to get everything warm, dry, and charged. After driving the car for 20 miles, the code did not come back. At first I assumed moisture was shorting out the sensor, but the voltage drop worries me. It's also worth noting that the car cranks as though nothing is wrong, though I had to throw a smart charger on it while I was installing and adjusting the euro lights, as after about 3 minutes of having the headlights on, engine off in a garage for aiming, it couldn't pull enough amps to turn over. Alternator voltage with headlights on, per VAGCom, is 13.4-13.6 volts. Thoughts are appreciated!

Anything is possible, but on the cars I've seen with dying batteries, it's a completely different (and much longer list) of codes.

If you're at 8v, you may have deep cycled the battery to the point where it won't recover on it's own anymore. Especially if your battery voltage drops that much in 3 minutes to the point where you can't start it, it certainly sounds like your battery is on the way out. Fully charge it and let it sit overnight, then check your voltage in the morning to give you another data point before running out and buying a new one on a hunch.

You can check your battery status with your VAGCOM:1. View the state of the battery in VCDS under 19-CAN gateway > Measuring Blocks > Groups 18,19 and 20.
This will give you a true indication of how good your battery is.

Subscribed. Having some weird intermittent electrical issues lately with my car too and had no idea there were such a list of weird symptoms....RNS-E doesn't always turn on when the car's started, rear sun shade is unresponsive, cigarette lighter suddenly stopped charging my phone, etc. My biggest fear with VW cars is electrical crap. My wife had a Jetta that was chalked full of inexplicable electrical gremlins and my sister had to lemon law a Passat that was basically possessed by electrical demons.

Def NOT normal! Sounds more like my wife's old BMW than the RS4

Not on a B6 or B7 you can't - there is NO CAN Gateway at address 19 on B6s or B7s.

My car is starting to struggle to start when it dips below zero, and been sitting for longer than 2 days. I've never had to ignite it twice, but assuming I have the OEM battery from the previous owner, and the car is 9 years old, that its going out.

Some members suggested that the starter is going out as well.

Starter is probably fine. Your battery has lasted longer than the rest of ours though.

I ran the car hard all weekend, got the battery with a nice charge on it, and there hasn't been a repeat incident since. I am thinking its the deep discharge that caused the issue, but if it happens again it may be time for a new battery. I cant find the date in the service records if/when it was last replaced.

Hopefully that was it. Had a similar symptom, car would not start and after jump starting with a charger, the ESP light was solid, this was after the car was sitting for ~3 weeks. Prior to this, a few months back the alternator was replaced.
Long story short, replaced the odyssey PC925 with the factory original sitting around. Charged to 100% and car runs, drove around the block and the ESP light went off. Will need to monitor. Connected the odyssey to the charger and will see if it discharges quickly.

For reference, below were some of the codes reported.
