    Boost/boost gauge issues?

Hey guys, have owned my b8 avant for a few months now and just purchased the ecs tuning boost gauge kit. Just installed it and not to my surprise it isnt calibrated correctly due to the elevation i live at. Does anyone have this boost gauge installed on there car and know how to calibrate it? It is not like the podi gauges where there is adjustment controls in the sender unit. I thought maybe it was reading correctly once the car was running because at idle it was sitting at -20in/Hg which is where my b6 sits and i was hitting 13psi of boost which is just a bit high from the stock 10-12psi (my b6 was the same way on a stock tune, hit 12-13psi). Upon comparing gauge readings to requested/actual readings in vcds however the gauge readings are off the same amount that the calibration is off. Im hitting 17psi and requesting 17 psi per vcds logs. this really has me scratching my head, because i have not tuned the car and bought it CPO from audi denver (i assume audi would never CPO a car that was TD1 or had an ECU with an overwritten stock file.

any help on calibrating the ecs gauges and why i would be hitting 17psi would be much appreciated. Thanks.

My guess is that the ECU is trying to adjust for the altitude and is increasing requested boost to adjust for altitude. Since any tune you would get for the B8 would put you well over 20psi at sea level I would be pretty surprised if you had any ECU flash on it

My guess above could be totally wrong but I know turbo cars do way better at altitude than NA cars so perhaps this is why?

the reading your getting off logs is sent from the MAP sensor, and will always read higher than a digital output sender for a boost gauge. My AWE gauge was the same way. This is why i like how APR did there universal boost gauge. they actually use a MAP sensor for the signal output.

aware of your first statement, not sure i agree with the second part, but I'm not familiar with electronic stepper gauges as this is the first I've owned. I prefer manual gauges. the fact that the apr gauge uses a map sensor as the sender i would expect readings to still be comparable to any other electronic stepper. obviously vids logs using the map sensor are not as accurate as pulling a signal straight off the intake manifold, but the electronic gauges still leave me wondering how accurate they are as you are still digitizing the signal. as state in my original post my gauge is not calibrated correctly. it sits at 4 inHG when the car is in accessory position when it should read zero. map sensor readings are 17psi max where the gauge reads 13psi. calibrated correctly, i assume that 13+4 would get me to the 17 psi the map sensor is reading. again, readings between the gauge and the map sensor will differ, with the gauge being more accurate, but not by 4 psi in my experience. i have an analog gauge in my b6 and the boost reading from that compared to logs are pretty much the same. i think i will swap that gauge into my b8 and see what it reads, to verify if the ecs gauge is reading correct or not and if there really is that much of a difference.

had a chance to swap in my mechanical podi today. got correct readings and hit 16-17psi max which matches the vcds logs. still havent heard back from ecs as to whether there is a way to calibrate their gauge. still wondering why my stock car is boosting this much?! also realized how shitty the electronic stepper gauges are compared to the old technology of the mechanical gauges. if ecs has no way of calibrating their gauge ill be trying to sell it to someone at sea level and will be picking up something else.

just heard back from ECS, apparently there is no way to calibrate their gauge. kinda crappy if you ask me. looks like ill be ditching this setup for something better.

I am at sea level, I recently got my torque apk to finally work and display boost. I have a stage 2 tune and driving home the other night the max I registered was 17.5psi. I'm sure it would read higher If I was not just in my local neighborhood and blasting on highway. That being said, its most likely requested boost by ecm not actual in my case. Good luck

couldnt get the ecs gauge to work here in denver. tried to use the high altitude and normal adjustable boost senders from podi with the gauge but they through of the reading more than it was originally and didnt have enough of an adjustment range to get it to zero. need to sell it as its just been sitting unused in my garage.

Stage 2 and you only got 17.5? Which tune do you have?

Did you redline in 3rd? I find I get max boost readings when WOT through 3rd.

    I'm apr stage 2 and I register ~25psi

I've seen as high as 22 PSI. I have a Uk.Tune which is pretty high in torque 305/243awhp. dyno was a Mustang and ambient temperature was 90 last September.
