    Locking Gas Caps?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My A4 is missing the entire fuel door actuator, I assume it was broken and removed with plans to replace. The shroud on the inside of the gas door is also gone, so it might get costly replacing every piece I need.

The door stays shut just fine, but I don't like the gas door being unsecured. Call me paranoid, but can anyone recommend a locking gas cap that would fit my B7? I know the older Audi Fox's had them, but I doubt the threads would match a newer A4.

This would probably be the cheaper route. I would prefer one not easy broken into.

What do you guys think, stupid idea?

Yes, very stupid. Just fix it. Your car would look much nicer.

No one is going to take your gas... My Dodge Ram has a 36 gallon tank, without a locking door or cap... Never had a problem. The part is cheap enough to fix, but if you get lazy, don't worry about it, you will be fine.

honestly if you are that worried i would just buy and replace the parts that missing and call it a day. that way its the way it should be! if you are still worried after that then i would consider a locking gas cap but i think that might be a bit of overkill

Along with the plastic tip/spring that goes at the end of the actuator. Also I need the screw/tap that goes into the shroud...

Just switching to a cap that locks wouldn't change the look of the car... I still have a gas door cover, it just doesn't lock.

Thanks for all the help, I might try my local junk yard to try to find some of these things cheaper. I looked on YouTube and most locking caps can be opened with a common household screw.

The locking gas door can be pried open with a screw driver in seconds, very possibly damaging the paint. It's cheaper to replace the gas ($50 max?) than repair the paint.

It's located inside the trunk on the right side. Under the carpet/mat. It's by the alarm box if that helps at all.
