Looks like I'll be changing a big single sooner than I thought.

Nope, oil to prime it once it's installed.

One thing I haven't seen anything about is why people haven't used Holset turbos when going single turbo. They are stupid cheap, so many sizes, and are proven on many platforms.

Man you guys made this not fun, I actually feel bad now. Was hoping to hear some trash talk.

I was also wrong on the goal, a tad bit over 1200.... And it's not exactly a single setup either. ..

3600 for the big boy. Each cylinder is roughly 645 cubic inches, and there's 16 of them.

That 3600 HP is at around 900rpm. Works out to roughly 20,000ft. Lbs. It actually uses a clutched turbo. It's essentially a supercharger until the exhaust gases build enough to unload the gear drive and run as a turbo.

Also, it's a 2 stroke, diesel, overhead cam with 4 exhaust valves(per cylinder), and a turbo.

The turbo I replaced today is on a baby v12 4 stroke diesel that's sole purpose is to produce the 480v needed for the comfort systems on our coach cars.

My username probably makes a little more sense now....

Lol you should see the primary engine oil filters.

10 of those 13 filters standing up are oil filters. You can see the bottom of the housing in the photo.

The bigger one standing with them is the primary fuel filter.

All of these get changed every 92 days.

Is it always time based or run time to determine when to change them?

Always time based. We are required Federally to perform detailed inspections on that interval, so the manufacturer bases the maintenance intervals as such.

    Either know someone, or luck.

I got in because I happened to update my Career Builder resumer, stating that I was an ASE master certified auto tech, who was looking for a career change.

Got a phone call asking if I'd be willing to move to VA and work on trains, now they would have to drag me out kicking and screaming.

Pics of flow straightener on OE K04 inlets? Why has this not been tested by Jeff?

I assume the train gig is salary or union hourly. If this is the case it looks awesome and waaaaaaaay cleaner than you would ever expect a train gig to be.

No Union, but hourly. And lots of OT for those interested.

You are correct on clean though. My hands are no longer stained, and my fingernails are cleaner than they ever were wrenching on cars.

Aren't Holset turbos much larger than pte? I would imagine they would be very difficult to fit without chopping the secondary firewall.

Sounds awesome. I might have to put my resume up and see what happens lol. I, too, am master certified. Which generally doesn't mean much to other mechanics but it sure makes finding jobs easy lol.

How does the work compare to cars? Did it take awhile to acclimate or just same ...water, different bucket?
