keyless entry not always working

The past few days my drivers side keyless entry doesn't seem to be working all the time, it seems to be acting flaky where it will work sometimes and not others, the pass side works perfectly. We had a bunch of snow and crappy weather so the car has been fairly dirty is there something that has to be cleaned? I tried wiping it but it still doesn't work consistently, its worked fine since I have had it until this week.

Happened to me. Changed the FOB battery and sorted it out.

mine is a 16 so I would hope the battery is not the issue ... but that could be possible for sure

I have found after a year with my A3 that most of these extra car features (the tech) despite their advances are useless to extreme nature of mother nature.

Frigid cold temperatures tend to render the keyless entry sensors useless, where I end up having to use unlock button on the fob.
The Parking System sensors become nullified when a nice mix of water/snow/and ice freeze on the car typically after a blizzard or heavy accumulated snow fallen, making the parking sensors detection useless.
We all probably know by how just a few specs of dirt can black out or make that reverse parking camera useless.
Heavy falling rain or snow covered highways make the Active Lane Assist camera useless as well.

and this affects just about high tech car.

mine spazzes out once in awhile too. did it within the first month I had it, and maybe once every two months afterwards. Occurrence patterns been on wet/humid days, or if it had lotion on it from my wife opening the door with her lotion upped hands. It's not very consistent though. in the lotion case, cleaning it with detial spray helped.

Sometimes it will just keep locking the door, even though I only touch the inside of the handle.

And it became a hit and miss again about 2 weeks ago. The moment the temperatures dropped below freezing point here in Ottawa.. I have 3 little videos where I try to open the car using the handles... just collecting evidence for the next time the car goes in. And yes, the soundaktor still rattles and the seat still moves in the rails...
The explanation I received form the dealer regarding the door handles not working is that the condensation water inside the handles freezes and then obstructs the sensor... a buddy of mine had an A1 and now has an A7 and he confirmed that in the A1 it was hit and miss with the sensor and in the A7 no problem at all...

My keyless entry does not work in cold snowy weather. I live in the Phoenix area so this only occurs on ski trips.

Yep, I live in PEI and once the weather goes below -5 or so, the unlock sensors just stop working. It's annoying since my wife's Jetta's sensors work all the time whether it's -20 or +20.

I just got word from my service advisor regarding the door handles I am waiting.. there is a TSB associated with it...

I worked out that mine has to do with my office swipe key cards (RFID's) being too close to the key FOB. Seems to get confused.

Same here, I noticed the same issue on both vehicles with the key-less entry and the parking sensors - good lord! I would pull into a parking spot with no beeps or visuals. Come back an hour later, turn on the vehicle put in reverse and then the parking sensors would light up like a Christmas tree. I would think that these vehicles would have been tested thoroughly in all weather conditions as per QA. Mind you, the BRZ upon entry into the vehicle in cold weather the windows would partially retract and not fully return to the closed position and the TSX which had its own little quirks and gremlins - the side mirrors constantly sticking and windows slow to retract and the constant rattles - wow!

I'll have to make mention of TSB#2042249/1 and the rear mag ride suspension knocking TSB when I take the A3 in for its first service.

Which leads me to my next question of oil changes - don't mean to hijack this thread - with the BRZ, it was either every 12k or 6 months which ever came first would it be the same for these vehicles (A3/S3)?

i have those office key fobs on my keychain with the car key. never had a single issue. im in socal

It still happens with me too. I think it's a cold weather thing.
