    Quick Question About Tires

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I just have a quick question, I tried searching and researching but found not much on this. I need some winter tires for my B7 A4 and found a set from a B8. The wheels right now are the stock 235/45/17, and the set I was looking at are 225/50/17. Now I know it's 5% more tire wall resulting in a bigger wheel, but I was wondering if I could get some input on if it's alright to do it or not and the consequences. Any help is much appreciated.

The new 225/50/17 tire is only 2.3% taller than your current tires. There will be no issue with that.

Note that if you're getting wheels from a B8 as well, you may need 66.6 -> 57.1 hub rings as the B8's center bore is larger.

The tire size will be fine however if you plan on using B8 wheels, you will need hub rings.

Ok so what I've read is I need to o from 66.6 to 57.1 (66.6 being the B8 and 57.1 the B7) is this correct? And is the offset going to be the same for the rims?

Sorry but I have another question. I'm looking at a set of wheels from an Audi A5. I assume the bore will be the 66.6 like that of newer a4's, but would the offset be ok? I'm not sure what the offset is for for the rims I'm looking at but the size is 245/45/17, can anyone tell me if they would fit? IN the meantime I'm going to try and find the offset. Thanks

For a winter tire you should shoot for a taller profile narrower tire if you want the best traction. (Winter tires 101). 245 mm wide tires would be going the wrong direction.

I needed getting them anyway, I know the narrower the tire the better, but I couldn't say no to the deal. They do fit, they come out further but they fit. And they aren't terrible in the snow so no regrets. Thanks for the help though!

Early model A5 had the 57.1mm hubs. Not sure what model year did it change to the new standard 66.6mm hubs

Ya the wheels I have are off a 2011 A5 so the bore was different. I just got some Hub rings and threw them on no problem. They're big but that's no real issue. I actually kinda like the bigger wheel.

You sure about that? All b8s had 66mm hubs as far as I knew.

Same. Can't find nor have I ever heard anything to support that- not to mention that would be bizarre.
