Test Driving a CPO S6 tomorrow, anything I should look for?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys - I'm testing drive a CPO 2014 S6 tomorrow w/ the 20" wheel option, cold weather package, carbon atlas inlays and the metallic red paint as the only options. As I understand it, the 2014's were pretty loaded to begin with (all "Prestige" trim) and should include the sport differential.

I know the Audi CPO program should make sure everything is in good shape, but is there anything particular I should be paying attention to?

I'm coming from a BMW 335i xDrive (F30) - if anyone has driven one of those and would like to offer their thoughts on a comparison, that'd be much appreciated also!

Check the Launch Control counter. There's a hard limit of 200, at which point the feature stops working, and if the car is anywhere near that I wouldn't buy it anyway because it would mean the car has been driven really hard.

Check out the "vehicle data" sheet that should come with the CPO paperwork. Under the warranty key section make sure it doesn't say TD1 like mine did.
    It is a long story.

Thanks - is there a way to check w/o VAGCOM?

Oye - doesn't seem like a car flagged like that should be CPO'd...

OP, buying a CPO'd car is a wise choice, however, you need to understand, it's not comprehensive coverage like the original 4/50K OEM warranty. Did you know that your navigation system and sound system isn't covered? It's all in print on the CPO information sheets. I know because I've read the coverages of the OEM, CPO and extended Audi warranties. You might want to consider Audi's "Pure" warranty which is equivalent to their OEM coverage. I would not suggest that you buy that through the dealership though unless you're ready to shell out a fortune. Good luck, the S6 is a fabulous vehicle!

The dealership will offer to sell it to you with the car. It is warrantied through some sort of agreement between Audi and Fidelity. It will cover electronics and will eliminate the $85 deductible that comes with every service visit you make under standard CPO terms.

I'm also interested in how to purchase this other than through the dealer. I did not know there was such an option. I purchased it through the dealer when I bought my car. I will have to look through my paperwork and see how much my dealer charged me to give you an idea of the cost.

Launch is a built in feature from Audi. It lets you sit still, hold break, bring revs up, let go of brake and take off like a rocket. There is a counter within the software that only goes up to 200 launches.

Give Troy of fd-warranty.com a call. He sells the same warranty the dealerships will sell you and it's administered by Fidelity. I GUARANTEE you, it's cheaper than what the dealership will offer you.

If anyone has any input on the deal, that'd also be appreciated; of course it will depend on what they give me for my car, but they're asking $62,990. I know that a CPO S6 is a fairly rare car, but it seems a little high; maybe something more like $60,000 would be appropriate given the options, age, etc. Again, not a lot to compare it to though.

Check everything on the CPO checklist is in good condition/working order. On mine even though things were checked off on the CPO checklist, a few items were missed and I had to point them out to have them corrected.

Ok, let me break a few things down for you guys regarding the warranty.

While you can purchase a warranty outside of the dealership, it will in no way cover you as much as the one sold through the dealership. Im not just telling you this because I work at one, but because we have dealt with this issue multiple times.

If you are buying a car that is CPO, you have an available "wrap" you can buy ONLY THROUGH THE DEALERSHIP that supersedes the CPO warranty by covering all the electronics and discards the deductible. This "wrap" is considerably less expensive than if you were to buy a full long-term protection plan from the dealership on a non-CPO car. Every Audi dealership deals with only one company, JM&A, for all their aftermarket products. While the warranty through JM&A is backed by Fidelity, it is not the same protection plan you would purchase from Fidelity if you bought it from them. I can guarantee the coverage is not equal. One of the biggest things is that the wrap sold through the dealership only replaces anything that needs to be replaced with OEM parts, not factory refurbished or "same as" type stuff.

Ok.....so can I purchased this warranty anytime? Or did I have to purchase it upon buying the car from the dealer. And how much does this "wrap" cost?

No, you have to purchase it at the time the papers are signed. Anytime after that and it wouldnt be considered a wrap, it would be independent and very expensive. Yes, you have to buy it from the dealership. It will cost the same from any dealership, heck you could buy it from me! The only difference is how much each dealership is going to mark it up, thats all.

Excellent advice. Also, the CPO is only as good as the thoroughness of the dealer doing the certifying. Read one-too-many threads to know that a CPO designation is not a guarantee everything is up to snuff.

For sure. It has a clean AutoCheck, but I'll ask to see the service records also.

This has me curious as to how many times mine has been launched. I'll have to make an appointment for it to be looked at.

OP, given the options, at that price, your right around the retail asking price and could find a lot of cars to choose from in that price range. I would only jump if it's the color/options you want, aren't willing to travel, or they give you a great deal.
