Post Just got my S4 and my first problem came already

So I just picked up my 08 s4 yesterday and on the way home the passenger side headlight went out. I turn the switch off and on then the headlight went on for about 1 second then goes out again. I did it again when i got home it would turned on and then goes out. what seems to be the problem? Light bulb or ballast? I have zero to little mechanic experience so bare with me please.

you could switch bulbs from side to side to know for certain.

The S4 knows when you are in a state of vulnerability, and then it pounces lol

I had a spare bulb from another project, so I replaced one headlight bulb to restore performance, and the very same night... the other one burns out... they know...

HID bulbs lose lumen output over time, so its not a bad idea to toss new bulbs in there anyway, especially if you suspect they are the originals

As what getslideways says or you may need a new ballast. If you gonna replace the lights, I replace the ballast also.

Only downside with b7 is you have to remove the bumper for headlight -- please don throw a aftermarket headlight in...

What's the error message? Dipped headlight? I get one of those every 18 months due to the streets in my city.

Also, when I first bought my S4, it was from an independent dealership (not Audi) and it came with a 30 day warranty. I got them to pay for the first ballast replacement. Did you buy it from a private sale or through a dealer of some sort?

I would try replacing both bulbs. If it works, keep them in. If not, return them.

If that doesn't work. It's probably a ballast issue.

Probably not, but a lot of guys don't like to see someone turn their beautiful B6/B7 S4 into something that it's not...like a BMW with Angel Eyes.

Ultimately, it's your car and your money. Don't worry about what people think of your new head lamps.... Unless they're angel eyes. Then you should be ashamed of yourself.

Non-OEM lights (head or tails) are just a personal pet peeve of mine. I particularly don't like putting a trademark BMW look on Audis. Just trying to do my part to keep the brand unique and classy ;)

As previously stated, just loosen the bumper (depending on the model it should only be like 15 bolt/screws and only takes like 10 minutes) then loosen the headlights ( 3 screws if i remember correctly, one being a PITA to get to unless you have a long torx screwdriver and/or bit..or a long flathead screwdriver that will fit snug into the torx head. you can try the flathead on one of the other torx bolts with the same size head to save you the time and hassle of trying to see if it fits deep down in the hole) take your bulbs and swap them from one side to the other. I don't think this will fix a "dipped" headlight code, but it will tell you definitively if the problem is a bulb or a ballast or other problem. Hope this helps you. I had the SAME EXACT situation as you(minus the code) on the day i bought my S4. Worked for me!
