So I've been gathering parts for my build now for a while and want to go 2.0l but not sure if the performance gains will out weigh the cost of going 2.0l... I have so far a fully built head with i.e. Stage 2 cams holset hx35 and other misc parts.. I really want to be in the high 400whp area with e85 will going 2.0l make that much of a difference in spool time and overall performance gains that I should spend another 1500 bucks on pistons and rods or no..

Your rods will need to be replaced no matter what you choose, so it's really up to you. There's no replacement for displacement though, a 2.0 will have more power than a 1.8, if they are built exactly the same way. Is it a big enough diffence for the money you'll spend? Maybe, but if you don't do it now, you may want to try it later and that will cost a lot more to do it then, instead of now (more oil, coolant, gaskets, if you break a bolt in the process, car down time, etc)

if your goal is spool time then you can either look into a faster spooling turbo or a stroker.
The stroker will get you some more torque as well. What code is the block? I believe its much easier to stroke an 06a
