Brake Squeal!!! TSB Warranty - Need Ammo for AOA

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hi guys / gals....under 40 degrees my front brakes are squealing like pigs coming to a stop. Had them checked at the stealer front pads at 10/32...like new pretty much. Stealer said too bad basically shit happens.....My car has 15K on it. Called AOA and they said my brakes are under 13mm so the TSB fix doesn't apply to me ? ? ? Being real Ass Hats! My car sounds like a old Buick sled and I want to crawl under my seat coming up to a light. Can you guys add any insight or ammo for me? I have researched and others have had theirs replaced under the TSB with my same mileage or more. They are saying I am under 13mm on the pads so tough shitski!

first off, greetings to another western Pennsylvanian! Which stealer did you go to? Audi Pittsburgh or Sewickley?

Does this squeal occur at lighter pedal pressure? While you're stopping, if you suddenly applied increasing brake pedal does it go away?

Sewickley. Any pressure ...below 40 degrees it sounds like a train! AOA looked into it and was like you are below 13mm on your pads so tough shit! Not acceptable! Owned many Audis ...my 2011 S4 never had an issue. Problem is...last year I didn't drive my Cab in the winter ...it sat so never really dealt with the squeal...it was here and there but now that I am DD it ITS DRIVING ME NUTS!!!! Thanks!

this issue has been there since 2009 ( had it on my s5 ) and even today. I doubt they will "fix" it. I believe its the pads they use. my old infiniti did the same exact thing.

switching to aftermarket pads fixes the issue

FWIW I never had this issue on my a5

For reference, I have never had any squeal....even @ -40f. My steering rack failed at -40, but the brakes were fine.

I have the same issue, had it checked at my first maintenance and they said to just hit the brakes hard to get that layer off...that didn't fix it. I get a set of pads free b/c of my warranty but I'm not for sure if I should stick to those or go aftermarket (when I do need to change). I absolutely hate the squeal, it's embarrassing.

at 15k. why don't you just change the pads to a different brand.

Brake Squeal!!! TSB Warrantly - Need Ammo for AOA

Have the same squeal on my '10 A4 Avant. Only in cold weather and received the same "solution" from the dealer, brake hard and it will go away. It doesn't, ever. After market pads are likely the solution as others have said.

My A5 never had this issue when I was winter driving it

I have some squeeling on my 2013 A5 when its cold and they don't do it all the time. I have about 1,300 miles until the 35,000 mile service and I was just going to wait until then as they usually check the brake pads as part of the service.

Because the front pads are at 10/32. There is a TSB out there on this and Audi has covered people with this issue even over 15K.

My car does the same thing. I bought it in Florida a few days ago and while we were down there I didn't hear a thing. Once we got back up to New York the brakes squeal like crazy at times. Major difference in temperature obviously.

Upgrade the pads. Stock pads are no good. It's a proven issue.

I have this problem as well in my '11 A5. But only when the brakes are cold. As soon as they warm up, no more squeal.

I went out to a fairly large parking lot got it up to 100 and slammed the brakes. Still squealing when temp is under 30 degrees or so. when it gets warmer there is no squeal. No other car I have owned has done this in cold weather including my 2011 S4. I drive highway and city and brake hard.

Definitely try another a more controlled bedding than that. Three or four back to back very hard 60-5mph semi-stops then drive around to cool right down with as little braking as possible. Hopefully that would get glaze off and add a coating of fresh pad material to the rotor. They are so soft to avoid any noise I'm surprised this happens. I already swapped my RS pads out long ago so can't relate.
