Help Me Choose My Wheels! (Please!)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey everyone,

So I'm relatively new to wheels, tires and offsets. I've done quite a bit of research and I've narrowed down my wheel choices to a few configurations.
First things first: Ive got a Baseline A4 (2011 B8) at stock height on stock wheels.

I'm looking to go to 19s. Ive been told that 20s will require more tweaking, and honestly I think I like the idea of a more comfortable ride at 19'.

Ive narrowed my tires down to a set of Hankook Ventus V12 EVO - 255/35/19

Now, on to the part thats difficult for me - the wheel offsets. Im eyeing a set of concave wheels. Debating between a 5 or 7 spoke design, but that's neither here nor there.
The sizing on my first choice, is 19x8.5 5x112 +34 (Note: ET42 is also available, however its my understanding that this means the distance between the outside of the wheel and the mount point is smaller. I want the concave to be as deep as safely possible)

Do any of you know if this setup is viable. Ive spent alot of time looking at calculators and diagrams, but all automated "will this fit your car" filters say that they wont fit. I know that setups like this have been run on B8s all over Audizine so I figured I'd post this one time, and hopefully get all the answers I need.

    Capture.JPG

With that being said, before closing I will share my second configuration option.
19x8.5 5x112 +30 (+15 offset is also available, but I was told it wouldn't fit, and I should "get as close to 40 as possible")

Honestly the offsets really confuse me, and I know the 19x8.5 is good, and I know of course the bolt pattern is correct. But when it comes to mounting this and accounting for offsets and trying to visualize in terms of "concave depth" has me like

    Thank you in advance!

Both of those sizes in bold will easily fit your car, but I think they're too conservative to get the look you're after.
If you want concave, the formula is wider + lower offset. Spoke design also plays a role in the visual look of concavity - some wheel designs aren't mean to be concave.

    Look at 9.5" wide, ET's between 35 - 40

I see. I assume that added depth wouldn't fit the current tire config?
Either way, I'm open to suggestions.

The first wheel config is available in 19x9.5 ET35 or ET48
    So that 35 should work!

Now I gotta look into tires. 9.5in wide wouldnt rub? Or would it make more sense to go 9.5 in the back 8.5 up front?
    Like so:

At stock height you should have absolutely no issue with either of those, and a 9.5 with a 35 offset should sit very flush with the fender arch.

I dug these out of the S4 wheel thread:

Rear is 19x9.5 ET33 and Front is 19x8.5 ET35. He's running 245/35 tires at that height.

Speaking of, you're going to want to drop this car as soon as you put these on. Start thinking about it now, it gives you more time to accept it. Lol. If you're concerned with daily drivability after lowering, look into the stock A4 Sport Suspension. It gives you about 1/4 inch of drop which makes all the difference but maintains practicality.

Agree...any aggressive aftermarket wheel will look terrible on the base suspension. Needs to be lowered.

OEM sport is definitely more than 1/4in lower too, I believe its 20mm which is around 3/4in. If it really were only 1/4in, it'd be almost indistinguishable visually.

Thanks Quattro for digging that up for me.
I like the fitment. So I think I will go with 8.5 up front, 9.5 in the back (I feel as though. 9.5 would rub up front. Feel free to correct me, anyone).

And I guess I can get 245/35 all around.?
Let me know what you think, everyone.

Thanks again for the love, and assistance.

You don't need to stagger them. You can run 19x9.5 on all four corners.

Here is my car on my old set of AG M590's. I'm also pretty slammed and had virtually no rubbing issues.

heard doing just springs makes your ride go to shit after a year or two... which is why i think personally I might spend a bit more for coilovers

I absolutely love my M590's, but the issue for me became that too many folks around here were running them. I'd go to local Audi meets and at least 3 other B8's had a set. I loved them (and still do), but I didn't want to be just another B8 in the crowd. That's the major contributing reason I went with a more unique wheel and design to my current set.

Not sure if that matters to you at all, just food for thought.

    9.5s all around huh?
Hmmm, now youve got me thinking, because I think thatll give me a bit more concave.

    and you say No Rubbing??!!
    I might do that.

Do you (anyone) know if theres fitment differences between the B8 and the B8.5 like youve got? Because if not I think ill go 19x9.5

Ive been on Tire Rack talking tires with guys and they all wanna tell me 9.5s are too extreme and they dont think itll work

There's no suspension or geometrical differences between the two when you're talking in terms of wheel fitment. TireRack is a good resource, but they're in the business of selling to people who aren't aftermarket savvy, while recommending sizes and fitments on the absolute conservative side of the spectrum for liability reasons.

If you want better guidance, talk to Jason at GetYourWheels.com. He's much more familiar with wheel fitments on the B8 platform and what will get you the look and stance you're after. He's the person that set-me up with those M590's above.

Thanks. Talking to Jason now. He says its a tad aggressive, offered to shave 3mm off the wheel for me but that makes me cringe.
What would yall say I do?

I might have missed it, but I still don't know what wheels you're looking at. Are they the ones in that little thumbnail?

Not entirely true! I've been running on H&R Sports w my OEM S Line stock strut with little issue. I think a lot has to do w the strut itself. If anything, going w a more aggressive spring means less shock travel.

In truth, I haven't seen/felt a significant enough decline in driving comfort that would prompt me to make a change.

    Just my 2 cents

    Are you on oe sports?

For wheels, I used to have a tool for calculating how much wheel will be inboard or outboard vs. Stock when changing offsets and widths.

On my IS350 some wheels had caliper clearance problems depending on offset and spoke design.

Yes, OEM sport strut when I bought the car late '09!
Rides just fine. Only thing I'd consider is maybe switching fr H&R Sports to Eibachs. Slightly less of a drop/little more clearance. I've noticed at moderate to higher speeds, if I come up onto a downslope or dip, I feel/hear minor rub just as I'm coming out of it.
Otherwise it's held up great given its my DD!

I am running 20's and love the look but now im nervous myself about how much I am going to be able to drop her. I dont want bagged, and am thinking of just running HR Springs and new struts with adjustable control arms.

Virtually no rubbing and I'm only one finger gap! I will get my front fenders rolled just because though...

Im about to get the Springs.
Im curious what you guys would recommend though, H&R OE Sport Springs or H&R Sport Springs.

I dont know the difference between the two. Id imagine the OE Sport is a milder drop.

OE is less aggressive of a drop vs Sport so depends on how big/wide/offset your wheel and subsequent tire selection is.

    Wrap Up

    Heres a few more

    Shoutout to the neighborhood squirrel

Semi-disappointed with the drop. But all in all I like it, OE Sports only been on 2 days so maybe I'm in for some settling. I think I want to add a light - very light tint to the headlights. I feel like the chrome shining thru is detracting from the overall look. Maybe slightly darker on the tailights.
Anybody have tips on removing the Amber side markers? I will turn em off with VAGCOM, but I dont like them there at all.

    Wheels look good!

They'll settle a bit, and that drop removed the monster truck look but is still high enough to be practical. I think for daily use you'll come to appreciate it.

Regarding the headlights, just bite the bullet and do an ecode conversion. Costs about $1200, takes 30 minutes of wrenching and 10 minutes of VAGCOM coding. Hands down the best mod I did on my previous car. Happy to provide details if it would be of interest.

I'm guessing you're saying go ahead and cop the OEM LED bixenons?

Basically, but replica housings are far cheaper. I'll PM you.
