Hey guys so i need some help diagnosing a noise that is coming from my car. The noise is coming from the rear of the car but it is hard to pinpoint exactly where because i have to be driving to replicate it. It sounds very strange so i really dont know how to describe it. Its almost like a worn out brake sound in the fact that it sounds rotational. Its kind of like a grinding but not harsh more of a deeper tone like a woomm woom woomm.( youre welcome for my sound effects). I can replicate the sound by being in a lower gear mostly 2nd and 3rd and letting the car slow itself down without going into neutral or braking, the sound happens at about 2k rpm almost every time. No cel, car runs 100% no power loss boost is normal. The sound is just really fucking my audi odc please help

Likely a wheel bearing. Does it get louder when you swerve the car one way other the other while driving in a straight line?

If you're quattro you can also check the driveshaft bearing

Usually. Should get louder the faster you go. When you first get moving sometimes you wont hear the bearing until you get up to about 20 mph - just depends how bad it is.

Its definitely not a wheel bearing, i was getting the sound and then i threw it in neutral and it immediately stopped making any noise. More about this driveshaft bearing, this seems like the culprit. Car is a 1.8tqm

Edit: after looking into the driveshaft bearing symptoms i do not think that is the problem, people were saying a high pitched whining/screeching noise coming from more the middle of the car. My noise is a much deeper tone and is definitely coming from the rear. With the back seats down it sound like its coming from under the mid/front trunk.

Could be a blown rear diff. If the noise stops when you push the clutch in you remove the load from the rear diff which takes any stress off of it.
