Does anyone know what the icon on the dash lights is for that looks like a bulb when running the self check on the dash. It pops up and a red x is through it. I looked in the manual "before anyone asks" and did not see this noted in there. No big deal just curious what this is and why it would have an x through it.

    thanks

I believe this should indicate a bulb failure. Double check brake lights, turn signals, etc...

Edit: Found this, http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...r-LED-29/page7 Post #241. License plate light out.

I believe the light is for the license plate illumination, I could be wrong though.

It is the exact same image in post #2 from emcaha. Says Brake light right before that image and then it looks like a bulb with an x thru it. I checked this morning and all bulbs are on and good to go, none appear to be out not even the two above the license plate so I am confused what it means. When the self check is ran it always says OK at the end.

Doesn't seem to be affecting anything but I just want to know what it is or means, it has to indicate something.

I checked them and both of the lights for the license plate are fine and working. Actually I can't find any bulbs that are out or not working.

I assume you have aftermarket license plate bulbs? If so not all are error free...

Not that I am aware of, they have not been changed by me and appear to be stock bulbs. I know they are not LED and appear to just be standard bulbs, I have one socket on each side of the license plate frame and they both are working. Actually every bulb on the exterior of the car is working properly and is why I started the thread to try and find out what it may be if all the bulbs are fine.

My car likes to throw those stupid error messages. im on 100% stock bulbs (except for the headlight bulbs). Basically what is going on in there is the filament is probably getting ready to go(or you have a bad connection) if the filament loses temporary contact inside the bulb, it will show an open circuit and throw the error message. that message will probably stay there until you reset it or change the bulb and reset it. Mine kept doing that and i could never catch the bulb when it wasn't working. Like the elusive unicorn. I was a little worried, but one time it came on I pulled over rather quickly and ran to the back to look at it. One of my license plate lights was out and i caught it not working. And in good ol Audi fashion, it started working again. Error code is still there when i press the check button, but who cares. I'll change them out soon. Might as well just buy all new bulbs for the rear of the car and change them all out at one time. If you don't, you will be in and out of the rear end multiple times, because that's what Audi's do. lol. Just my .02

I think a lot of the people responding missed the part where you said it happens during the self-check, or they didn't know what you meant by that. As far as I know it's completely normal for it to show that during the self-check. I'm not sure why but mine does it too, I assume it's sort of testing it's ability to display the error or something like that. It's only an actual error if it shows up when you're not running the self-check

You are exactly right, I have no error code being thrown on the dash. Like you stated, it was only when running the self check before you take off. It is not affecting anything but I was more curious what it meant than anything and thought someone else may have know or wondered the same thing.

Good to know someone else see the same thing and also has no issue.

    I appreciate your reply.
