    Custom Exhaust - Parts Confirmation

Hey guys, so I'm planning to do a custom exhaust for the A4 from a single sided to quads. The plan is to delete the resonator on the downpipe, replace the center resonator with a magnaflow one, attach a y pipe to split it into the magnaflow mufflers in the rear. My understanding is that the stock exhaust piping is 2.5inch all around. Since the muffler is a 2.25 inlet, would this work with 2.5 inch piping? Or would I have to find a muffler that has a 2.5 inch inlet. Same question for the y pipe. It's 2.5inch single to 2.25 dual, would I need to get one that is 2.5 to 2.5? Asides from these, and getting the exhaust hanger and heat shield are there any other parts I might need?

Can you put staggered tips on that rear muffler? Even tips look odd with the rounded rear valence.

I would find a 2.5" inlet muffler so I didn't risk choking the exhaust flow.

I might be able to if I buy a muffler without the tips, and source the tips separately. I'm okay with the even tips. But I will look for a 2.5 inlet muffler.

In my case I ended up not using a heat shield and we decided to use only one MagnaFlow muffler in the center (13288). The downpipe and resonator were replaced with a 3in straight pipe.

Do you have any sound clips of your setup? I thought about not having rear mufflers, but was afraid it might be too loud. Or that it might even drone, but with a centre resonator that might not be too bad

I ran this setup for a while but I thought it was a bit too loud so a couple of weeks ago I decided to add a magnaflow resonator before the muffler and it actually quiet down nicely during cruising but I still get that nice growl when I go wot. I will try to make a new vid with the new set up as soon as the weather gets nicer.

Thanks. So did you completely remove the downpipe and just have 3inch pipe from the cat to the center resonator? Or did you just remove the downpipe resonator and add piping from there. Because I thought the downpipe was also 2.5inch not 3inch.

The 3in pipe comes from the cat. To make things easier, we kept the stock downpipe flange and we used a 2.5 - 3 in coupler to run the 3 in pipe down to the muffler

We're excited to hear what it'll sound like once you're finished! It shouldn't make a huge difference, but we would recommend using the 5x8x24" Y muffler for the center, and the 20 inchers for the 2 rear ones. It usually works a little better sound and space-wise. If you have any questions about sizing for your setup, feel free to call or PM us!
