Does anybody in the tristate area have some cool pack I could borrow for test...

Car is a k04 stage 3 with Autospeed fueling.

I'm trying to diagnose a misfire issue, mostly noticeable at idle, it's there a little under throttle with no load but all but gone when actually driving the car. Has no codes at all. No hesitation or odd behavior. I've put in a set of brand new ICMs, sparks plugs are new within 10k miles. I don't mind spending the money on could but would like to make sure that's the issue before buying them. I travel between CT and north Jersey daily.

If anyone has a set I could borrow for testing, that would be awesome

If you have vcds you can see total misfire count for each cylinder in the engine measuring blocks. That will show you what coilpack is shot

Just thought I'd chime in and say that I have ASP Stage 3 set up (60lb injector file) and it misses a little bit at idle but not enough to trip a code.
    Doesn't misfire under load.
Don't remember if the idle was particularly smooth with stock injectors but that was over 10 yrs ago.
I always thought it was the nature of the beast...really big injectors for such a small cyl displacement...injectors are basically bottomed out.

If it misfires under load, I'd suspect ignition (plugs, ICM, Coilpack)
At idle only and not under load: lean misfire...at or below injectors minimum capability.

What injectors? Bosch or Seimen Deka? I see on the Autospeed site it shows bosch, but that might not be relavent if the kit was purchased a while back or used. I only ask as the Dekas have a bit of a rep for poor idle performance on this platform.

That cool pack will be for your back after you're done installing your coilpacks....
Just low enough to wreck your back.

think I saw you post this before on VWVortex/Fourtitude, and I pm'd you. I did the ICM delete, so I have some coilpacks if you want to borrow them. Also have a cheap Xtool that can measure blocks.

I live and work in north jersey, so feel free to PM me

I used to have random mis fires at idle. The I went with the 2.0l coil conversation. And no more mis fireing. I might get one or two In a 5 mile hard drive. But I can feel how much smoother the car runs.

Anyway I'll sell you my icm's. As I don't need them any more. What's a fair price???

Thanks for the replys! I don't know what injectors are in the car. Is there a way to find out by looking at them? I've just put in a set of brand new icms. I'll try the measuring blocks thing and try some known good coils and see what happens.

The frustrating part is that it doesn' always misfire. Occasionally it runs dead smooth and perfect. I don't know what to make of it.

Good to know constant misfires can be normal for a stage 3. I've owned multiple b5 s4's prior to this and have never dealt with a misfire issue like this before, but I've also never owned a stage 3 before either :) I'm loving it so far!

So I ran a log of misfires and it seems like there are no misfires under load, but a huge amount at idle when both cold or hot. #6 looks to be the worst offender by far, with #2 being a close second though all but 2 cylinders are are showing consistent misfires.

So now that you know that, swap those two coil packs with two of the good cylinders and see if the problem follows. If it does, its the coil packs, if it doesn't its something else.

Hopefully you have an open element intake! Makes cylinder 2 a breeze to change. Cylinder 6 is annoying, though.

hmm, yea like others said swap coils first. i assumed you checked for vaccum leaks? what do your additive fuel trims in measurement block 32 read?

I don't really have any way to test for vacuum leaks, but vacuum is right around 20 in hg at idle, maybe a hair towards 21 once the car warms up, not sure how accurate a podi boost gauge is though...I'll take a look at block 32 tomorrow. What specifically should I be looking at/for in there?

Block 32 might show that perhaps your tune is off and your idle fuel trims are off causing your misfires at idle. it is rather interesting that your misfires are only happening at idle and partal throttle as you said. Maybe your injectors arent properly setup to your file at the lower end of the fuel map considering how random the misfires are across all the cylinders.

Perfect for the measurements in block 32 is a value of 0.0% for idle and partial adaptations. Anything above 15% is a no go (from what ive read, dont remember where).

I would first start by putting coil 6 into 3 and 2 into 1 to see what happens before checking out 32
